“Harvest Building Company converted one bay of our three-car garage into an entry room and the entire second floor into an office and guest bedroom and full bathroom. One of the unique features was the dividing wall between the bedroom/office/sitting room spaces. The wall was a bookshelf, which had a center panel, which rotated (they figured out that the mechanism for a windmill would allow the panel to rotate 360 degrees in both directions). While one side contained a bookshelf, the other side had a plain wall so that we could mount a TV on it, thus, allowing the TV to be viewed in the sitting area or in the bedroom. Their tile work, carpentry and sheetrock work was some of the best that I have seen. I really enjoyed working with them, not only because of their meticulous, high quality workmanship, but also, because they really loved and took great pride in their work.”

My wife and I bought a turn of the century Victorian cottage with clean lines in the beautiful seaside town of Narragansett, RI. It needed a lot of work, and we really wanted to transform it from a simple Victorian to a more classic, shingle-style home. “We hired Caldwell & Johnson (C&J) for Dave's knowledge of green technology. Before the project began Dave showed us other houses he had built using some of this technology. In the last stages of design we decided to use photovoltaic technology. C&J installed solar shingles on the south facing roof that are producing more kilowatts than we are consuming. The photovoltaics coupled with other building techniques C&J uses to produce energy efficient homes (e.g. foam insulation) earned us a Home Energy Rating Certificate with a 5 stars plus rating. Dave followed through to get the house tested for its energy efficiency and we received certificates with the results. C&J was also top rate in terms of designing the interior details of the house. For example, board and batten was installed on the walls of the open staircase, craftsman style trim on all windows including some open transoms, and help when choosing finishes (e.g. tile). Dave's team is very knowledgable and professional!”

“I hired Select Construction for a $15,000 roofing project on the house I recently purchased. As it was a foreclosed property, the roof and surrounding trim and siding pieces were a complete mess. Andrew, the owner of the company, met with us and provided us with several options for the project (he wanted to make sure that he had a solution that would fit within our budget and goals for the property). He arrived at our house on time and was very professional. Rare to see a contractor arrive in khaki pants and a polo shirt. After providing us with several options, my wife and I decided to do a complete roofing job (they removed the old shingles and all of the junk that was underneath due to what looked like several shoddy roofing jobs done before this one). Select Construction completed the roof and replaced all of the rotted trim boards with AZEK boards that we don't have to paint. Overall I am very satisfied with Select Construction's quality of work and the timeliness in which they completed it. If I am going to spend $15,000 on a project I want to know that the company I hire is going to complete the job as promised, in the timeframe they promised, and with a high quality of craftsmanship. I would definitely hire Select Construction again.”

“Xylem builders worked with us to plan and build a large addition to our fifties ranch style house in Windsor Locks in 200. Friends of ours had Xylem do some work on their house and they were very satisfied. From the first contact, the project moved right along fairly quickly. We more than doubled the size of the kitchen, replaced the cabinets, countertop and sink and added a breakfast bar. The small straight galley kitchen with an old fashioned wood and glass paned back door was changed to an L-shape kitchen with an enclosed laundry area and a beautiful new side door. The kitchen became the main entrance, which completely changed the look and feel of the heart of the house. People actually wanted to hang out in the kitchen, for the first time. Charles helped us to find cabinets that were both high quality and affordable. The finished kitchen was just gorgeous, and we were on a budget! We also added a coat closet, for the new entryway, enclosed laundry area within the kitchen, large 2nd bedroom and additional bath. It was also necessary to replace the tub and tub enclosure and do some cosmetic work in the existing bath. We enclosed the hatchway, turning it into a wider interior stairway to the basement, making it easier to move larger things like washer, dryer, furniture when necessary. Charles and his crew also changed out the furnace, put a new roof on existing house and sided the whole house. It looked like a new house when it was finished. We received many compliments on the house, especially the kitchen and 2nd bathroom. It was a real pleasure to work with the whole crew. They even cleaned up after themselves! Charles came in on budget and has an excellent work ethic. High quality carpentry and real talent for design. Charles and his crew are honest, hard-working and very professional.”
