Looking for help to make this living room a more functional, enjoyable space. Home has no kids and the living room doesn’t need to allow for a TV. The shape of the windows is making it a little difficult to plan a nice space!
Is that a kitchen bar to the left ? Basically , do you want a dining area too ? And why no TV ? Is it because you already have another lounge with a TV , or you just don't believe in TV's ?
If the budget extends to it , I'd paint the walls -- that 1980's buttery beige is dated ( the floor tiles are getting that way too , but not the end of the world IMO .
But whether you do repaint or not , I'd add a couple of pieces of art , a Tv , a wall unit , a large rug , a clock . Add some character , and probably even co-ordinate colours . Then carry that through to cushions , vases , objects d'art and the like too .
Then the actual furniture placement won't be so critical -- right now it looks barren and even boring , so you want to create interest through furniture , but I reckon you'd be better to draw the eyes elsewhere through colour and personality .
I’d move your sofa forward and put a sofa table between it and the wall. Then lamps on the sofa table with art above. Anchor the sofa area with a rug and round coffee table. Consider a slightly larger dining table but with more streamlined chairs, and move it a tad towards the water bowls (which need to be upgraded or moved). Add a pendant over the table once you’ve settled on its position. In an open plan area you need to anchor or define the different areas. A rug will do that for the lounge area, and the pendant for the dining area. The floors are functional but the wall colour could be updated (you’ll need to post a pic of the kitchen if you want colour suggestions). Once you’ve settled on furniture and placement, some more accessories eg cushions, art and plants can be considered.
Another idea would be to have the chaise section of the sofa on the back longer wall with the long section at an agle to that. This should work with the single doorways and allow space for a sideboard and TV on the wall if wanted., very basic idea
Fabulous suggestions, you could even go moody in your colours, the idea of a table behind couch is great also the dining area, a large rug for sofa area, a nest of coffee tables with an ottoman would look great, lots of great ideas from everyone.
If it fits, I would move the sofa around so the longer length was on the door wall with the chaise coming out. I'd get two arm chairs to face opposite and put down a nice big area rug to zone it off and maybe a nice big beautiful art piece on the wall in between to finish the empty wall.
I’d paint the whole room a bright white to make it brighter… the room looks dark, yellow, and makes it feel small. Do walls trim and ceiling same colour to lift the room and make it appear larger.
