I was thinking kitchen to dining as there is already a separate Living room, with growing boys a family area of Kitchen/ dining/ Family/ alfresco would be good. My 6.4 & 6.2 boys can take up a lot of space plus love food and to cook

Place the furniture “in the room” not along the walls. Make a conversation area looking out to the north. Walk around the back of the furniture, to enter room from dining area.

Changing the light fittingd to downlights or something flush withe the ceiling could help. At the moment they are quite a feature, but just hanging out there, not placed over any particular zone.

The entertainers hang out, if you want a snooker table replace the dining table and have a top that can be removed, my cousins had this great fun for the family

Thank you all for the suggestions. Lots of great ideas here. We had wondered about knocking down the wall between the kitchen and dining to improve the flow. I’m going to try moving the sofas off the walls now!!

Nothing to do with your living area, but if your renovating, I would look at closing up the laundry/kitchen door. Take out the hallway cupboard and make the entrance to laundry there. Install cupboards along laundry wall. Allows for more kitchen storage space.

Yes, great suggestion! Unfortunately the drawing is not to scale; there is not enough depth to run cupboards along the northern wall of the kitchen. Otherwise it would have been a really neat solution.

Here is the updated room with our furniture. Great suggestion to move the sofas out from the walls (I would never have thought of this). It has created two nice ‘ zones’, including a floor space for yoga and board games, as well as better flow from the dining room. Thank you all for the ideas and advice 🙏
