Comments (10)I have just taken a couple more pictures (excuse the untidy house) from the stairs. As you can see it's an open plan area that isn't that big but very high ceilings also in wood (Macrocarpa) with dark wooden beams. The house is surrounded by bush so quite a dark house. I initially considered a darker wood similar to the beams but not sure if that will make the house appear smaller / darker...I'm really not sure what to do!?!?!? Thanks...See MoreAnyone know what type of wood this is likely to be?
Comments (1)It's really nicely done, maybe just some fresh cloud white paint from Benjamin Moore? It really adds a lot of texture and interest....See More'Need help with this stairwell!'
Comments (2)When you say "Do we paint the paneling as well as the other side - the rails etc." what exactly do you mean by 'the other side"? Are you referring to the underside of the stairwell? If so, I would leave that element. If you paint the panelling just be sure to give it a sanding before doing anything. I just had the wood trim in my place painted (just baseboards, not panelling like this) and I was told that it didn't need to be sanded first. Boy, do I regret it - there are spots that are flaking off already, and it was a good quality paint and primer used. In your case, I would paint the panelling but not the banister and stair rails unless you are also planing on painting all of the wood trim upstairs. Doing the panelling will leave you with the lighter, fresher look, while still looking classic with the wood stair rails. Also, it looks like you have the wood panelling in the hallway/entry way leading to the stairs - I think you need to have a consistent treatment for both areas so would paint this as well....See MoreWhat colour??
Comments (12)Hi Ang, I thought I'd follow up my earlier comment with pictures of before and after of pine cupboards I specified to be painted in a budget makeover. My clients tell me people presumed they had purchased brand new cabinetry, so startling was the makeover. Somehow I have put the "after" on the left and "before" image on the right!...See MoreLori East
