New home kitchen design

We are building a new house and it is decision time for the kitchen. I could really use some help on the following issues:

1. The builder is putting in granite countertops. Any popular granite choices out there?

2. Kitchen appliances: Best and long lasting appliances? We are planning for an induction cooktop (decided against gas to be more environmentally friendly and safe), convection microwave and traditional wall oven, ducted over the range hood.

Any opinions on warming drawers?

2. Sinks: Want to do two sinks. One large farm sink and another decent sized sink (not a prep sink) Any suggestions?

Appliances should be chosen for what you need and how you cook they do not have to come from one manufacturer in fact I strongly discourage that with my clients because no one company makes everything well . I also avoid big ticket appliances just because you think they are better IMO Sub Zero and Wolf are examples of over priced and over rated. If you have decided on induction I would advise a trip to an appliance dealer that does demos of these working. Often all your pots will be obsolete so check that out. I have a 2 burner induction but still use gas most of the time.I have 2 sinks in my island that are back to back for us this is great as my husband does the prep and I do the cooking so one is on the fridge side and the other on the stove side.

Thank you. We are going to check out the appliances. We are having a tough time choosing the range hood.

Unfortunately no. We are in the very early stages - have only just had first meeting with architect. Comment from people who have worked with galley, island peninsula, or L-shaped with work top in middle would be helpful, plus whether a walk in pantry is valuable. For most of the time, there will only be two of us at home, but we both like to cook, we are fairly sociable, and our family like to get involved when they are around. The kitchen will part of the main living area, and not closed off. Hope that helps.

Suggestions on decorating our 1980s architecturally designed home

Help! we are redecorating our 1980’s architecturally designed home. A new kitchen is going in - modern - white with a black stone top. The dining and living rooms have been opened up with a wall removal. some of the walls will be painted but the stairway and wall leading into the dining room will be difficult to achieve a paint finish. How can we achieve a modern look with some white painted walls and one very long wall will need wallpaper? Any ideas? Anaglypta? thankyou!

Kitchen design for new build

We are in the process of doing up plans for a new build and I have changed around the kitchen layout as I felt in the original one, the scullery was too cramped and not big enough for a working area. Question - has anyone got a similar layout to top plan, which is the newer one? If so, does it work? Would love to hear from you! We do a lot of entertaining so want a plenty of room to move in kitchen! The area along from island bench, on wall, is a bar area. Thanks

Choose your stove or cooktop and that will have a huge bearing on the hood fan choices you will need a certain # of CFM for that choice.
