Study/spare bedroom help!
Comments (3)Hi Ju, I looked at your idea pics and they are all very light and neutral. This room doesn't seem like it is really you. If I am on the right track, I would recommend a colorful area rug, a light colored cover for the sofa bed and a colorful throw over the back. A row of framed prints or photos (18" square or close to that size - not too small) on that wall would give more life to the room as well. Two white filing cabinets could flank your desk along with a sleek white leather/chrome chair. Need to brighten it up!...See MoreLooking for help on bedrooms layout
Comments (29)I think the first layout is fine. You might want to consider moving the door for the storage room of the master bedroom so that it opens into the hall. That way the kids can use it for overflow storage. Also, that hallway is big enough that I think it could hold a large armour, providing more closet space. (There's no need to sleep in the same room as your clothes, so long as they're not too far off.) Also, don't forget that while the drawing shows kids in double beds, this need not be the case, so there will be more room for furniture (dressers or whatever) in their rooms. Finally, that step to bedroom 4 will not be odd at all. I've seen it in other homes. It looks clumsy in the drawing but it isn't. What you'll see when you come up the stairs is a bedroom door on a slight diagonal. It's only an odd jagged step if you walk like a robot, in straight lines along the wall, which is what your eye is doing on the drawing but you won't do in real life....See MoreNeed help with Montana reno - too much tongue and groovy!!
Comments (2)A nice whitewash wall/paint treatment would brighten it up if done in a light color. Or I would paint it but not sure if all the knots will bleed through? If so then I would use an oil base Kilz to stop bleed through and paint it depending on the interior design I want for each room. I would not paint the ceiling for a more Montana look,...See Moreneed help with my 20 year old boy bedroom
Comments (1)Hi Bradford Rice, I understand that it can be difficult to decorate for someone this age. The best place for you to start is to specifically ask him some leading inquisitive questions like, "What do you like to do most?" "Whats your favourite part of your room and your least favourite?" If you can find an item which is dear to him (like his guitar, or playstation remote; yes I did say that! or favourite sweatshirt) then this gives you a springboard to build from. There are some amazing wallpapers out there (check out Mr Perswall graffiti range, or distressed timber board wallpaper) which without too much investment can transform a room quickly. Try to simplify your colour palette and limit it to just a couple of colours, dirty pinks are in vogue along with greys, and animal skins, remember that bedding colours bring a whole new feel to a room and if it lacks natural light keep the colours masculine but subdued with a taupe linen bedspread. Incorporate some chunky texture if you can by way of a thick weaved carpet rug or woven rustic lamp shade, and some shelving storage to encourage him to pick his stuff up off the floor! Good luck with that one! Post a pic if you want further advice....See Morerebeccaamerica
