Explain to your husband that visits to the Emergency room = $$$$$. Air borne wool fibre can irritate people with these sensitivities and can lead to long term health problems. People with eczema often have breathing/lung issues (not always...but it is common to have both). Exposing people with wool sensitivity to 24 hour wool is a recipe for expensive medical treatment. Synthetic fibres are your best option if you must have wool. Solid/hard surfaces are much better/easier on people with sensitivities as they reduce airborne particles and allergens. Hardwood or cork would be a much better choice for air quality.

If it's brand new, have you tried asking the supplier what they recommend? We got a booklet from our supplier when we got new carpet with ways to treat various stains on that particular carpet. Each kind of carpet will be different. Also, have you tried a professional carpet cleaner? If all else fails, try your luck with your insurance company - I know others who have got carpet replaced because of bad stains - depends on your policy.

Hi Sandra, There are many benefits to both carpet and laminate. Laminate is easy to clean and can look good when done right, although it gives a colder look than carpet and can get damaged easily by moving furniture around. Personally, if you are family orientated, I recommend either matching your hallway flooring to your kitchen/dining and carpeting the lounge or carpeting it all. We have recently completed a project that did the complete opposite as you and pulled up all laminate and carpet to expose the original rimu flooring. Click here for ideas.
