I just want to clarify that this is the slab floor you're talking about and not something you are adding to a raised foundation? If that is right then it is a cheap solution and may be fun to do. Adding a laminate wood or carpet later is possible but in the case of wood laminate could result in the big chubby extra trim around the base moulding which a floor done by a good floor guy in the original buildout won't have to add.

Hi anne, that's what I was originally thinking, my issue is what colour I use for the 'pop' :) I keep coming back to a teal/turquoise colour (it's one of my favourite colours!!), I love blues, purples, teal/turquoise - many on here have suggested yellow but I'm really not sure about it. Here in New Zealand we're in Autumn, nearing Winter so uncertain about the yellow. I found these cushions that I've fallen in love it, and wondering how I could make these work.. do I try teal and mustard together, as an interior designer suggested?

Absolutely no problem changing up the carpet. Things to watch for......make the transition in a doorway, an opening or along a visual break in the rooms (like the corners of the walls). I would stay in the same colour range, but just go to the other end of the spectrum rather than change the colour completely.....like light grey going to dark grey, not light grey going to navy blue. You want the separation but an easy transition on the eyes.

Sorry for the delay....well I still haven't quite got to the floor yet. I have friends and family advising that black would show up every bit of dust etc and one friend who had a shiny black floor and felt that she was forever mopping, and if the light shone on the floor on the wrong angle you could see where the mop had been. I think this would frustrate me too much especially with young children and a cat so I think a whitewash look could be a good option, or reclaimed battered timber perhaps.......see why I haven't chosen the floor yet. Lol. You could always go a black but a weathered matt reclaimed timber that could look good too. Good luck!
