Marble floor: bad idea?
Need some advice. My designer is recommending a black and white marble herringbone floor for the children's bathroom. It'll look cool, but I wonder if marble isn't an impractical choice. Doesn't it stain? You can't use tilex or bleach on it, apparently. Does anyone have experience with marble floors? Regrets?

Vertical Tile Strip....outdated??

Comments (4)Lino has been used in bathrooms, laundry rooms, kitchens and entranceways for 150 years (it is the THAT old...yep). The traditional checker board (black/white) is quiet "hot" in many areas of N. America...especially when a "retro" theme has been brought in (think 60's Diner). Lino is the old fashioned "vinyl" before plastics were invented. Then plastic was invented and people switched to "vinyl". Now people are moving away from plastics ('cause we've learned a thing or two about the environment) and are going back to the tried and tested Linoleum (Marmoleum = brand name for lino). Comments (7)Vinyl is vinyl, and it is never going to look right placed up against real wood floors. Get an inexpensive rug (a flat weave for preference) with some underlay, and throw it down on the floor. Washable would be best, so forget the nice glam photos of oriental rugs in kitchens....See MoreKitchen redesign ideas needed

6 years agoWe install plenty of marble bathrooms, including floors, BUT, there is more maintenance involved. For a children's bath, a porcelain floor tile would be a better choice. I would suggest that you ask your designer to source similar patterns and colors (if that is the look you want) in porcelain. Here's one example:

6 years agoI did use this marble flooring. It was beautiful but the trades didn’t protect it and now I am comparing the new pieces with the floor and feel they ruined my beautiful new floor. I don’t allow shoes in the house. They would have stayed clean if 20 men with mud on their shoes were walking all over them. I am at the finishing stage of a 9 month remodel and now I feel like they ruined them! need to figure something out. Any suggestions on brining them back to life? They also cracked a couple with some hairline fractures. But I did love the look. Just want them to look fresh like they did when they first installed.

It needs to be removed completely and buy something porcelain. Something not so disorienting and not so Lynchian.
