Can I somehow make a black chandelier and black curtains work with a deep navy lounge suite? I'm swapping out the wooden furniture for white painted stuff. I have a new tv cabinet replacing the drawers and china cabinet too. 'Scuse the mess....
I would first of all suggest a de-clutter. Then look at the room with fresh eye's like we are. There is nothing wrong with the coffee table - the wood matches the trim on the couch. The draws under the TV could be updated. Do the curtains need replacing - if yes then a Black would work (but if no it is a huge expense). I would rather take the red cushions away and add cream / white like the curtains / carpet.
The china cabinet is amazing but it doesn't match the skate board - what look are you trying to achieve?
If you are replacing the settees in the picture with white ones, then may I suggest that the coffee table be painted black or white. The strong wood colour will not match your new white furniture. A colourful throw and cushions with a hint of one of the strong colours in the throw will go well with your white furniture. The skateboard would then go with the black and white theme.
Personally I wouldn't hang black curtains with this colour lounge suite. I would also take out everything that you don't need in the room as it is too cluttered. I actually like the wood as it matches like Bernadette said. I see that you are adding pops of red in the room. How about a picture on the wall with that colour in it, as the walls are quite bare. Are you able to remove the computer desk and chair? I love big mirrors in a lounge room too . . . The programs that I have watched in NZ, ask 'what is the hero in the room?' So I think you need to ask yourself this and work with that, going forward.
. . . The only comment I can make on the skateboard is I think it is placed too high on the wall.
