Need your opinions on kitchen tile choice – see photos
Kitchen almost done - what colour/type of tile do you think might look good in the backsplash area behind the red kettle? My look is natural and organic so nothing too glitzy but it still needs to pop a bit. New pendant lights and barstools also still pending so will need to blend in with the overall feel.

Wow!! Your kitchen is looking amazing, looks great since removing that bar hiding sink, were you able to fix holes ok, white glass or the new kitchen approved Perspex for a splash back would look fab or stainless alloy tiles would add a tiny bit of bling, stainless stools and pendants would add a stylish look, looking great, love the bench tops.

Comments (121)I would suggest you take out the cabinet that is to the right of the stove and use it elsewhere in the house -- perhaps in the bathroom or dining room with a hutch above it. Then, I would suggest you have someone install a lazy susan cabinet in the corner between the sink counter and the stove, meaning you would move the stove down a bit and have a small cabinet/counter top to the right of the stove. I would suggest you have the cabinets refinished in white and then paint the walls a pastel you like. If you would prefer white walls, then add white-painted crown molding and paint the ceiling a light neutral blue, such as Sherwin Williams Niagara Falls Blue. Then, I would suggest you choose a favorite accent color and use this sparingly in accessories like towels, pot holders, small vases or floral arrangements, and a valence above the triple windows. For a genuine 1940s look, you might have white ceramic square tiles with a rectangular red border installed as a back splash behind and above the stove. If you are replacing counter tops, I would suggest a light color such as white with a beige or light grey vein or striation for some sort of pattern. Comments (40)We got the IKEA shelves that are pictured in the butlers pantry photo I posted when we were on holiday in Melbourne, Australia. We don't have IKEA here in New Zealand! Hubby is going back over in May/June so will get him to get more of that sort of thing when there. We would pay about 4x the price for that sort of thing here in NZ. Comments (4)Thank you. My husband and I chose the tile (per recommendation at the tile store) and used a professional tiler (per recommendation at the tile store) for the install. It isn't a flip. This is a family home that we purchased and spent a year renovating—not DIY but with all professional hired help and a contractor to oversee the job. This tile person wasn't hired by him, though, as he was happy to use the person that we were told was very good by the tile store…. My heart is sinking. I absolutely hate the idea of retiling the shower as there is matching tile on all walls, including shower. I'm hoping there is some other idea out there that will help. I do personally think the tiler should have informed us if the tiles we supplied to him weren't suited to be mitered…we discussed it even before tiles were purchased and he didn't mention any specifications. 6 years agoI spent the money on a glass splashback in silver and I love it. I got one of these pop up powerpoints from ebay and now don't have to wipe around the powerpoint on the wall. Just a quick google search and maybe something earthy like in these pics.

How exciting the kitchen is coming together nicely!
I thought you might be interested in some of the tiles that I have uploaded in the following kitchens. they are a nice white, neutral colour but with a little bit of texture, it just adds that bit extra character.
If you're looking for more darker, bronze-like colours I have attached a few samples that we have in different sizes that you might be interested in too!All the best!

6 years agoThe opposite wall (behind stove) has a lickidy-lick-pink tempered glass, so I wanted something neutral behind this side. We tried paint, but it chipped too easily, until we found these (just after grouting).

6 years agoForgot to attach a photo. Can just see our white glass with sparkle splashback behind the pole (structural - and couldn't remove them in our reno). A different kitchen to yours but my philosphy is to keep it plain or white so as not to detract from your other feature which seems to be the metallic benchtops.
