Also take a look at Room and Board....they have several tables with different wood finishes or wood/steel/metal bases and a good selection of various tabletop materials. Also if you prefer a wood table, an area rug underneath the table could also help to break up all of the wood too.

You can of course have a furniture repair business add material and refinish. Or you can add a center accent piece of tile, or wood inlay. If you're going from a narrow rectangle to a square, you would need to disassemble the table anyway, might as well do something fun with it.

In my experience Moewaka, it is usually more economic to keep as much of the existing as you can and add on what you need. Some things do depend on the level of finish you want to achieve too.
