try Benjamin Moore Key Ivory West for the walls - it's a soft color and will brighten the space, but will work with other colors. Put a funky rug on the floor. Go to Marshalls or TJ Maxx or IKEA and get a comfy chair with a a small table next to it. If she has any artist friends at school, have her ask them to do an oil or watercolor of something she likes in a large canvas for over the bed (don't frame it). Replace those lights. Or, for over the bed, just print out a bunch of 5x7 photos of friends or whatever (black and white would make a statement) and arrange them in whatever frames you like. Going for neutral or soft colors will enable you to use accessories for color and change the look when it gets old.

Thank you for your help, I had never questioned my taste until a recent visitor commented on my lack of color! I like the look of the mongolian lambs wool cushions-have not seen here in New Zealand, I will have to search. Thanks for the reminder about mirror, it mostly does reflect the dresser but yes the doors are focal too, I hadn't noticed. I used to have more height on the living area coffee table but when I removed the Television and hung the vintage ceiling tiles (photo attached) on the wall the height interrupted them from another angle (not photographed). Our house is located semi rural with bush and water views, with this being quite focal in the lounge (with the wall paper) which is why I have not hung art. Oh I have not even touched the surface of fabrics that are available and beautiful. But, best to qualify further if you are recovering or buying new chairs before we get too excited or caught up in the beauty of the products. I love fabrics and the chemistry and technology that goes into modern day fabrics would astound most people. I'm not even talking about the residential fabrics like the Robert Allen collection I showed you. I'm talking about the fabrics for the hospitality and medical care industry. Now if you are interested in MODERN look fabrics I would send you to Maharam to look at their 20th Century Modern collection. Some of those are the real deal by Eames and Girard. Anyway, when you get further along in your plans then I can give better input.
