Help with laundry/bathroom layout
It is a laundry that is accessed from the back deck so we want to include a second toilet plus shower.
Don’t intend the toilet to be used often - more for guests when we’re entertaining on the deck and the shower would be for kids coming home from sport/hubby home from gym/gardening etc. So it will be a bit of a ‘mud room’ - i would like a space where we could leave shoes and sports bags etc (maybe school bags too) and a little seating area - to put shoes on etc. I’ll post a pic of what I mean.
But I’m not convinced that what we have currently would be the best use of space. Currently the shower is just ‘in’ the laundry (would need a good curtain for privacy!). Is there a way we could put shower and wc in own room? Or would this work? I am happy to built this if it is the best way!

the width of the space is missing from your plan but something like this might work
but what else do you need to keep in the laundry (front or top loader, dryer, ironing board, cleaning equip??? and a small bathroom only 1200 x 2200 is acceptable to stand and dry an average sized person by using the laundry tub for handwashing but what is the maximum available space in both directions Related Discussions

Comments (14)We have a 900x900 shower and it's plenty big enough. Neither of your proposed layouts looks that great, to be perfectly honest, sorry! In the first layout, you could improve it quite a lot by swapping the toilet and vanity (centre the toilet under the window on the bottom right of the picture if possible), and having the shower door on the other wall (beside the door). Then, you could have a towel rail on the wall beside the door (i.e. behind the door when it's open), which would be accessible from the shower but hidden when the door was open. An 800x1200 shower might be a good size for your space. You'd have to choose a toilet that doesn't protrude too far, plus a narrow vanity. With that layout, you could have a long but narrow wall-hung vanity, with a big mirror covering the wall between the windows, which would make the room feel bigger and would give a good amount of storage. Comments (1)always prefer separate toilet with handbasin, the bathroom has plenty of space for generous fixtures up to the sizes shown but the bathroom should be planned to suit potential users and relative to the whole plan (where are the windows?) next door rooms, orientation, outlook etc...this is one suggestion that has the best view on entering the room with the shower (tallest) at the side, bath with potential view, vanity with option for two basins and matching mirror doored wall cabinet and the toilet handbasin next to the shower keeps the plumbing sounds away from adjoining rooms more details may inspire other suggestions...See MoreHelp with new bathroom layout

- 8 years agoI should add that this is an extension to an existing house - hence the bizarre floor plan. The extension adds new dining, extends kitchen, adds deck and laundry. It is lowest 1950s timber home in central QLD.

Entrance is currently at front up four stairs (house on stumps). Or via back door on ground level that goes into current ground floor laundry. From laundry you walk up four steps into current dining.
We are a family of five. Kids are now 8,6,4 - two youngest are in long side bedroom (has angled roofline), master bedroom is front middle room and oldest child is in bedroom that joins existing dining room. Kitchen is in the middle of the house (there’s a window to laundry from kitchen which would originally have been to outside before laundry enclosed and built in).
We want to add another bedroom, deck and larger kitchen to cater for growing family but we are very limited with budget and need to do so smartly. House has high ceilings and VJ walls internally but fibro outside. Bathroom has been recently renovated. What we love about the house is that it is open and airy. We like smaller homes and those with a bit of character.

my suggestion changes the placement of the kitchen to allow for a much simpler more economical kitchen and a family dinner table with servery to the deck and better access for master bed to bathroom and a simple three panel stacker door with sliding flyscreens is a much cheaper option than the bifolds and allows for a small double hung servery window from the kitchen and better year round ventilation

My idea is to move the master bedroom into the living room with possibility to use front porch as part of the master suite. New entry from narrow deck into open plan family dining kitchen, which should allow more light into the middle space.
Using existing rooms with the exception of the new laundry Mudroom bathroom with internal access as well as from the new deck which will have an outdoor kitchen BBQ along that wall.
The kitchen in the same space with a 3m long Island and a WIP.
4 Bedrooms with one done Dormitory style with bunk beds for sleep overs, divided with wardrobes.
You mentioned that the bathroom had recently been done, is there a toilet included?
Large sliding door to alfresco opening up both spaces to each other. cheers
