Uncentered light over table?
What sort of light would you hang in our dining area? I love Scandinavian and simple style, but I also have an off centred dining table. This photo is my small dining area taken from the living room, the room on the left is the kitchen. It’s a thoroughfare to the back porch so we leave the table against the wall and move it out if we have dinner guests. The table was from our grandma so we don’t want to get rid of it and I like the wood tones. The current light was here when we purchased the house but seriously needs to go! Its not a high ceiling (my head touches the current light), and I like a cosy table light, but I also don’t want the light to look totally off centred when we sit on the couch. I was thinking a Sputnik light that we could change angles of depending on the table position? What do you think?

The photos you have posted are really lovely but not really suited to our environment and house, which I know is impossible to tell from one photo. We have built a modern farmhouse on 10 acres. That room looks out to beautiful green countryside and the river below. The dining room is a bit of a feature and is completely different to the rest of our relaxed lodgey style house but I don't want it to be too modern, if that makes sense. Comments (2)If it is a casual buffet type meal you don't need to go over board on the dinner table. I would suggest a lovely table runner a pose of fresh flowers (not high so that you block peoples view across the table). Some lovely place mats, standard silverware and glasses all set out and a couple of very simple candle sticks - I also love the idea of the mini Led Fairy lights but maybe around the room (perhaps a mirror if you have one in the room). If you have napkin rings or can make lovely napkins shapes out of origami, that adds a little bit of class and perhaps a small chocolate at each place setting. Don't go over board. After all it is the company (and the food) that should be the star of the night and you need to relax as well. I love these gold polished glass pendants for over my island bench but will they look okay with my dining suite or is it too different? What about a trio of lights hung at different levels and space them to accommodate when your table is in either position, could look gorgeous

PRO8 years agolast modified: 8 years agoThey all look good, but it all comes down to clearance. How low is your ceiling? How tall is your tallest visitor? How long is the light fitting? Will the light fitting look good if it is close to the ceiling, or will it look cramped and foreshortened?
When I moved into my current home (with a taller ceiling than yours), I got an electrician to hang a row of pendants down the length of the hallway so they would be 5 cm taller than my family's Uncle Colin (who was by far the tallest regular visitor).
Now twelve years later, Uncle Colin has passed, and my little boy (who was six years old when the pendants were hung) has grown to be 192 centimetres (6'6") and needs to duck everytime he goes to his bedroom. I need to get my electrician back to make all of the pendants shorter, but the proportion of cable length to shade won't be as nice.
