Paint Colour for high walls and ceilings

Hi there, weve just bought a new 5 bedroom house with really high walls and ceilings. The curent floor is a reddish/brown wooden floorboards downstairs, and short haired grey carpet upstairs.

We wish to know the current trend for wall colours considering the high ceilings, and the floorboards.

The kitchen cupboards are a dark grey.

We will be changing the upstairs carpet to a medium grey to suit our furniture (and rather paint the bedrooms a fun colour), we want to keep it clean and modern and fresh, and use our furniture to add life and colour.

Also we will to put up colourful paintings and photos of the kids on the walls, so would a clean white or couple of shades from absolute white, suit?

Our preference is Dulux paint.

I would love to see some photos of the house, interior and exterior. Where are you located and are there plenty of windows? Do you know what timber the floorboards are? If there is lots of direct sunlight onto the floorboards, this will reclect colour onto the walls so choosing the right "white" will be important. Did you want the one colour to go through the entire house? Are you wanting to keep the feel of the high ceilings or would you prefer to have them feel lower in some rooms? Regards, Bronwyn

If you are commited to one of the excellent Dulux whites then I would have a read through this about their most loved whites for inspiration:

As with any paint colour don't chose from a digital image. The only way to choose is with a sample in your home, as your perception of the colour will change according to the time of day, the light conditions and the surrounding colours.

I love the general concept of beams and adding beams, but in this space with the ceiling as it is in the drawing, I think adding beams at lower levels makes things too busy architecturally, considering the soffitt and all of the other planes, angles, and openings.

Hi there! We are about to start a renovation project which will produce an open plan kitchen / lounge area with a high ceiling and exposed beams in the lounge part. The house is a coastal property, but on a harbour rather than a beach. I'm a huge fan of colour and am planning a boho-type them with relatively neutral coloured walls and then lots of colour in furnishings, artwork etc. My issue is as to what colour to paint the walls. I don't like anything cream/beige/brown/ grey/pure white, so was thinking of a very light blue, or perhaps a white with a warm blue undertone. Any suggestions?
