Ensuite dilemma
Hi all,
We are looking at this house as we think it holds some upside for our growing family. The ability to extend out the back and open up the kitchen/living room is awesome. The one thing it doesn't have is two bathrooms. We are really stumped where an ensuite or 2nd bathroom may fit given the 4 bedrooms at the front. We would like to retain it as a single story, but could reconfigure walls (although would like to keep costs down). The existing bathroom probably needs some attention. Any thoughts advice would be welcome.

4 years agoasmall ens should fit in the big in the biggest bedroom but i'm womdering about the slope to add a new garge towards the front of the house with a master suite "upstairs" to make better use of the old garage location but i've included a few ideas but always subject to accurate dimensions and budget and what is needed immediatley and can be planned to be added over time and you will notice that if you decise to renovate the old bathroom it could be worthwhile to tsela space off the adjoing bedroom to make a more comfortable family bathroom, with or without the ensuite

Comments (13)Thanks houssaon and rinqreation! Funny - hubby has the same 2 door hate! It sounds like I'm being outvoted on the shared ensuite idea. :) We've actually been set on both the configurations you suggested, we moved away from yours houssaon because we really wanted to keep a closed off office space (and hubby built the front deck and landing already for the door at the end of the hallway!). And I don't know why we shifted the door on the bedroom back to the same area, I think it was about having easy access to all the kids bedrooms. But maybe we should shift it back as you suggest rinqreation. Joice, the door at the end of the hallway is the front door, the entrance closest to the street, that you would come to first if you were a visitor. Not totally necessary, but we reinstated it before we decided we wanted the entrance up the stairs (middle bottom) which would be under a carport. Thanks for all your input!! 4 years agoMore simple idea create a new front door centre extending hall out to the front. Create master on driveway side pinching the existing entry space and half a metre from next room.

4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoif your long term plan would be to extends at the back i think reconfiguring the existing family room or bedrooms for a generous master suite would be better than removing the wall at the front to enclose the balcony ...the front wall supports the main roof and there would need to be expensive alterations to add suitable support for the roof, create a new floor, line walls and ceilings and the balcony floor and ceilings are probably lower than inside and/or don't meet current building standards to be used for an inside room and the cost would not be worthwhile for such a small addition when there are so many better alternatives... the house has good proportions that suggest many different options and if it's in good condition in a good area for a good price then you could live comfortably until you decide on best improvements and here are some other variations..
