The rug should go under the couch legs, lose or move the floor lamp, and put the bookcase with the books..into a bedroom or study.
Then see...
I think the trunks are ok.
I hate seeing bookcases...makes the space smaller and messy,IMO. But they are needed, but maybe somewhere else?
Or put books in trunks...sell bookcase!?

Thanks for the comments. I agree re bookcase and lamp, and they will be heading to the study once couch in study is sold soon. I am thinking then of putting a long thin tv cabinet under the tv and dropping the tv a bit lower on wall. Put a nice piece of artwork where book case was.. once that is in place I can see if the big trunk looks too big with it...rather like it and pulled it off marketplace.
twice after changingmy mind re selling! ...but hope it isn't too big with yet another piece of furniture in the lounge. I battle to imagine what I like till I can see it..

Yes...lamp and bookcase gone.
New buffet/sideboard under tv, then see if u need to move it.
And a plant...maybe draping down over said unit and a very gorgeous lamp on the unit.
Not too tall, but something stunning.
But otherwise I don't think it's too cluttered.
Just pull the rug to under one of the couch legs just a little.

We are building...smaller, I have two trunks, one has to go..arghghgh
One can prob go in a bedroom.
I'm sad.

So if you can keep yours, do!

The eye goes to bookcase. Get rid of that and a long piece of hanging art, it'll look gorgeous!

Thanks, yes, we built smaller too so have to try make it work, hopefully keep them both. Definitely re plant! Need lovely cool colors to balance the wood furniture. Will adjust rug, you are right..and post another pic when finished. Good luck with your build! We are enjoying our new place :)

This is thick cardboard.. Can't sit on it.

We had it in a basement as last house was a downsize.. This one even smaller!

The others like a huge pirate chest, full of toys. This has extra bedding..

Argghh

But less house to vacuum... .

I love trunks! Add such character..hope you can keep yours. One of mine is a military chest brought out with my great grandfather when he emigrated to South Africa, all he had was in it..in 1892, age 19. He had 10 children. We emigrated to NZ with it 20 years ago..our history with it. Could never sell that one!!!
I found an example of what I think would work under the tv..now to afford it ha ha!.

Do you think you should look at wood? Just thinking with the other trunk pieces that are wood, something that's different?

You have the white unit.. Maybe white and wood? Black and wood to match black TV.. I'm not sure..

Maybe too much if all wood?

Hi Kiwimills, just posting what we have done this far. We went for wood, seaport range from Farmers, with an industrial look to match the trunk..couldn't really find anything else to work which I liked..although we did consider white built in shelving... already have two white units. I will accessorize to make it work..

Looks a bit dull in pics, actually nicer in real life. I was pleased to see new unit fits in well and doesn't make lounge feel cramped with big chest..although not a big lounge..will live with it awhile..few minor things to adjust..

Thankyou for your help and encouragement!.now I need to save for a bigger rug and planning to paint a wooden corner cabinet in dining area a fashionable grey..too woody in there right now! Never ends does it!
