How do we renovate our 1960s tongue and groove ceiling.

The house was built in 1962. We have had the house for quite a few years but have only just started to spend a bit of money on it. We recently had the house re-roofed because it was leaking. The wooden tongue groove ceiling has water stains from the leaking roof. What should I be doing to improve the look but retain the 1960s look? Inside and out.

You'd want good masking skills , but I'd do the beams and uprights in a charcoal .

The actual ceiling inside looks okay -- obviously any water-stains or the outside eves would need sanding and re-varnishing .

What product would you use to protect it/seal the wood inside or out. I have seen pictures where the beams have been stained darker. In two minds about that.
