Ideas requested for Entrance Pond Garden (Japanese / Bali Garden?)

Hi Houzz friends,

I was hoping to please obtain some ideas for the design of a remake of a feature garden at our main entrance?

We live on acreage just outside of Melbourne. Our garden is a mix of Shrub gardens, rose gardens and generally easy to maintain country style gardens. The house is colonial style.

The garden currently has a central pond, with a urn style water feature.

My initial thoughts are to maintain this pond and water feature and balance it with a Japanese or Bali style garden.

I was thinking a large weeping style Japanese Maple as a feature tree, however are open to suggestions.

I'm open to any suggestions or ideas, and welcome advice on plant selection?

Some considerations -

- Minimise heavy ground cover as the pond attracts snakes (we have young children) and would prefer to avoid attracting snakes to the front door.

- of lesser importance, we have Rabbit / Kangaroos (prefer plants which are not favoured by these pests)

- garden approx 5m x 4m

Any suggestions are greatly valued, Thank You in advance!

So glad you removed yukkas, I would add a weeping birch, could be a bit too hot for a maple, as you mentioned snakes keeping it open by using beautiful river stones and select planting, large liriope is apparently unattractive to rabbits, you could keep the base as a pond or add the stones could look really beautiful

A weeping cherry, an olive tree would look great and light up your feature at night
