I searched everywhere to update the glass block window in my bathroom short of replacing the block window. I considered custom draperies from roman shades, cellular shades, to plantation shutters. This window faces another home 25 feet with a street/sidewalk not far away. At night, people could see in more than desired and I wanted a little more privacy without sacrificing any natural light. My husband created this unique, custom solution.
Window is 48x48
Goal: added privacy, keep all natural light, hide glass block cubes
Materials: wood slat pieces(poplar) 1"x 1" cut to size, plexiglass florescent ceiling light covers(2) 24x48, static cling window film
Cost: $150 US
Glass block windows can be pretty in the right design but I'm not the biggest fan. This project took about 3 hours to build the frame, paint, & install. Frame is inset the window trim. The film static clings to the smooth side of the florescent ceiling light plexiglass. Any plexiglass would work for this application. Apply desired window film. I used Artscape Dogwood from Lowes.
