Vinyl is vinyl, and it is never going to look right placed up against real wood floors. Get an inexpensive rug (a flat weave for preference) with some underlay, and throw it down on the floor. Washable would be best, so forget the nice glam photos of oriental rugs in kitchens.

Hello, I haven't done it personally but I have seen planking broken up by laying it perpendicular. The bathroom and the scullery look like they would be better proportioned by running vertically rather than horizontally as shown on your plan. I think your best bet is to take or email your plan to a flooring installation specialist. I was wondering if you had considered the dining table closer to the kitchen by switching the dining and family areas. Looking from the entry - there are very long lines of planking which could make the area look thinner than it is. Have you considered adding interest to your entry by going on a diagonal and this could be carried through into the bathroom. This will of course be less of an issue if you are offsetting the planks and if you are it is less of an issue for your scullery. all the best with your build.

I have recently upgraded my kitchen keeping original layout but now have a very tired original cork floor. I love cork tiles, but the discoloured tan/orange just doesn’t fit the colour scheme, would the new painted ones wear as well? I enjoy the warmth and the quietness of the cork, would the expense be warranted, or should I simply opt for a vinyl planking look.

I’ve noticed suppliers that used to push laminate flooring, have replaced that with “hybrid” which, as far as I can tell is simply vinyl planks under a new name. Have flaws in laminate performance appeared over time that has reduced its popularity ? The new hybrid planks I’ve seen look less convincing as wood.
