Before & After Bedroom Living Room

Living/house/room renovation ideas please

Hi,

My wife and I purchased this house early last year and we have a 2 year old child.

We require a few areas which need renovating, both of us are not really interior designers or good at visual art or design. The bricked living feels very dark which is not to my liking, i was wondering if anyone could assist with any design items or furniture items or layout.

I have attached a few images below for your own reference.

My budget is not much so i will be doing everything slowly.

The cheapest option is to paint the bricks. If you don’t like the text you can render the bricks or cover with plaster board. Both will add costs to a simple paint job. Bricks do soak up paint so get advice on how to prep the brickwork from the paint manufacture. Eg dulux

I think just removing the wallpaper and and painting (instead of adding more wallpaper) would make a big difference (particularly in the bathroom). Also, I would get rid of the current mirror in the bathroom and replace with a smaller framed type, paint the cabinet and new hardware. Honestly, I think just paint will make a world of difference in your space.

For the fireplace inserts go ahead and do the green order a second set of panels that you store that are more neutral. In 10 years or five years you may not like the green anymore. It's possible you won't have access to different colored panels at that time. As for the color I like the ideas of going into those silvers it would coordinate very well with your blue couch and it will pull the blues out of the curtain panels. For the wall coloring use the warm golden color in the drape. There is one piece of the flower that has this color and it will balance the weight of a dark couch. If your room is small don't go too dark in this color. You could use it on the main wall and pick two shades lighter on the other three walls.

Hmm, I'd aim for balance. The last time these colours were in fashion, in the very early 1990s, I had light pink, light blue , light green and black. In some rooms there was white instead of black. They all worked well together. There are lots of recent pastel rooms on Houzz photos. Also florals are about to appear on the scene, in big digital murals and digital printing on cushions, on rugs, etc. it's a modern version, but still florals. Pink and the pastels work well with florals. Which way does the room face? If it faces South, in the Southern Hemisphere, go for a warmer colour.

Kitchen Dinner and Living Room or Kitchen and Dining Room?

Hi, We have recently renovated our kitchen, and have had the idea to turn our living room into a dining room. The idea is, that we would have some really comfy chairs and would be able to relax while sitting around the table; so the dining table wouldn't be only for meals. Then rather than having a dining table, we would have a bench with bar stools on the kitchen/living room wall. (nb the wall is load bearing and cannot easily be removed so this isn't an option). The other option is to keep the living room and set it up with a sofa, coffee table and a couple of occasional chairs. Dining wise we would have a smaller dining table in the kitchen. The living room opens on to the lounge which is set up as a TV room. There is also a guest bedroom and bathroom downstairs; the family bedrooms and bathroom is upstairs. We will also have an outdoor dining table in the undercover area outside the kitchen. I look forward to your thoughts and ideas.

As suggested by rocksfam, remove the bar top, add tiles over the brickwork of the bar, ditch the vertical blinds for linen sheers, ditch the pelmets for metal rods, & paint the brickwork, leaving the fireplace surround in brick & ditch the fancy steel brackets for blackened steel plain brackets, Fill in the brick arch and install a large mirror or artwork to hide the filled in arch. Paint the brickwork & ceiling in the same colour to create a cosy setting. When you can afford some lamps, go with a cool floor lamp & some smaller table lamps. To add some greenery, a plant in a large pot will do the trick. You will need a large floor rug for that space.

You could just paint the bricks, but they are not easy to paint and would require several coats. You could cover with plaster board ( it’s just attached with cornice adhesive) or alternatively bag the bricks and paint them. Much easier to paint as you don’t have mortar lines to cover. As the walls are internal, you can bag the bricks with cornice adhesive and smooth it with a damp sponge before it’s completely dry. This gives a great textured look with looks of character but not the dust collection of painted brick. Very easy for anyone to do and a very cheap option.
