As per Julie's jasmine picture except criss cross them to make them into diamonds, you need to trim them. we did this on a garage wall and looked lovely

How much maintenance can you allocate to it?

They were great ideas. If I planned a window of that type it would be for that purpose.
But real plants absolutely need maintenance.
Climbers trained to shapes need frequent pruning.
Climbers allowed to grow naturally need less, but still regularly to avoid problems. Some climbers are worse than others for that so it needs to be a carfeul choice not simply what looks nice.

Another idea is some kind of garden wall or hanging pots, but that needs maintenance and more careful watering than plants growing in the ground.
Then there's shrubs, but there's a limited range of plants that are much taller than they are wide, and that is further limited by the required growing conditions. For example you don't want to invest in a row of something nice only to have the one on the end constantly wilting because it can't take the full sun or the wind. How wide is the space, and do you have a path along there that needs to be comfortably accessible? You probably don't want too much foliage right up to the window because then it will block the light that the window provides to the room.

You could maybe achieve a similar look with fake plants, but they can look fake especially in strong light. It could work if in shade, but if there is sun exposure it really shows up the plasticness and makes it deteriorate quicker too, and then it's off to landfill.
For the maintenance that you can manage, some nice screens will work, such as the corten ones in Julie Herbert's pics. Or do something with the glass.

If no maintenance I would add a metal screen to fence that has a scene or foliage patter. The colour bond behind will highlight the pattern. Add light for night to backlight it using solar lights

You could do the metal screen , using remote solar lights at night, palms like the golden cane palm are non invasive and low maintenance, you would need to install a watering system with any planting.

I second Julies idea with the palms, as you could also have a fernery. These plants don't need much maintenance either. This is a home we designed in Torquay, Vic, Australia and the ferns grew so quickly, this home was only completed a year prior to these photos being taken.

    Hello an68888

For an instant low maintenance solution that is not dependent of sunlight, soil conditions and watering; you could install a printed Deco Splash panel to your fence in their 3600mm x 1500mm which you could get with a Foliage Print design. Then in time if you want something Natural you could also plant on to the face of this Deco Splash panel a living wall that could then fill out over time.

    Hope this helps,Malcolm.
