Painting window sills and spouting to update exterior

Hi, looking to update the exterior of our house by painting the brown windowsill bricks and also weather we can paint the maroon spouting. wondering about ideas for colours and products. dont want to spend too much. keeping the brick cream colour as is.

I think you are focussing on the wrong things . It is 1980's -- the aluminum windows ( and even their design ) , the sills , the roof , etc -- it all screams 80's . These days , you'd go dark window frames , probably charcoal window sills and gutters -- BUT it will still look 80's , even if you spend $20k on new windows .

So I'd embrace but also divert the eyes . Waterblast or chemically clean the paths and driveway . Then do the gutters and bargeboards in charcoal , and it looks like a carport and fences there too -- all charcoal . That will smarten the white brick tones .

Then I'd do the entrance door in a bright orange , as well as replacing ( or even try repainting ) the large pots to a similar bright orange . The greenery looks great , so thats your colour palette -- the white bricks , dark roof and gutters , orange highlights . The windows will just blend in , and it'll just be a tidy , slightly updated version of the original .

All the concrete is letting place down. Start with a good pressure wash/chemical clean. Then u may need to add a pavement coating

I would do a glass splash back [ this can be painted in your color choice to suit the decor ] - taking from the bench top up to the bottom of the range-hood on the wall of the stove. The window is beautiful and I would give anything to have them in my kitchen. I would probably paint OR stain and apply marine grade vanish to the would so that any moisture would not be able to ruin the wood. I would also put herbs or flowers there. Could it be made into a servery for outside maybe ???

Perhaps a colored door if you paint the home grey. Maybe Red? You could simulate a color change on door by hanging something over the door that is the color like a tablecloth or piece of fabric. If you search houzz for" grey homes", you can see what others have done. My home is painted Cape Cod Grey with white trim and it has been very easy to live with for years. I have a dark grey roof.

In order to suggest specific plants, I need to know what part of the country you live in. There are no shade trees it seems. I would take down the two shrubs at the front of the walk, including the purple one. Sorry. You can get the purple back elsewhere. They are overbearing and there's no symmetry. At the right corner of your home, not too close where the roots will damage the foundation or branches at maturity will touch the house, place a medium sized ornamental tree. At front, left corner, behind the mailbox ( you need a bigger, more updated one), maybe 5 feet to the right, place another tree. Pull out all the plants that are along the house and replace with evergreens, box woods? Just depends where you live. I would also pull out the white ground cover near the wall, just on the right, in order to achieve symmetry. I would paint the cream stucco a shade of gray darker than your roof and keep the trim white. Also, a new handrail would help freshen up the entry.

HI --- Why is the yard paved , it looks so barren ? The color "Willow " by Benjamin Moore Paints would work with what you have . I am not a fan of the roof color ... if you change that , you could go with a textured dark brown or go to a textured charcoal or a grey . Maybe make the front door stand out more with a color ... maybe a rich dark green or a Navy like "Polo". But this house would look wonderful with a veranda /deck/porch from the front door to the opening just in front of the last window on the right ,in the color like the windows and trim . For the landscaping .. if your keeping the paving I would say get some big planter boxes . I would remove some of that paving because the house could use some trees etc. If so then I would plant a cut leaf weeping birch just left front of the window but mature tree spread away -about 20 feet. Also see if that down spout can be moved to come off the side ,instead of on the front . And add some exterior lighting to accent the house .

Love dark trims on blonde bricks, paint all trims including window frames, aluminium windows paint well, also the brown sills, agree , pressure wash the concrete and then decide if a paving paint would be needed, a small outlay for a great look.
