Those ideas are great / what a difference already. We were thinking of ranch sliders/ bi folds right along the front and taking out the triangular windows at the top as they are off set and filling that in with lineaboard painted a copper colour, and adding a more extensive deck. Thinking of taupe/grey paint on the roughcast at the bottom and lighter lineaboard or of the same taupe/grey at the top. Copper colours on the garage door, on the linea joins on the top half and around the soffits. What about the garage door being a block design e.g 5 x 4 block type look?Then it would match the entrance door. and covering in the windows at the bottom ( that's all garage underneath and is well lit with lights inside ). the outside light looks cool - maybe in copper? are you able to produce that for us, we would love to see if the concept works. I would try the Woodcliff Lake, it has a warmer tone than the lighter greys.

I have a cabinet already should fit there, so did think about that already...maybe I am just having a hard time picturing it. We are designing a 'contemporary' house, so I would say it is fairly modern with touches of older/more vintage pieces. I will take a picture of my cabinet tonight to see what you guys think. But I guess most photos/when I think of buffet cabinet I picture more traditional pieces. If anyone has a more modern take would be great!

My vote is for the wash but not in bright white and after some selective knot primer in the same tone. You are going to want to selectively primer down about 2/3 of the knots (use a dark white tinted primer), and use a dark white / brown toned off white instead of bright white so the beams still give you dark white on bright - that would be my vote. Consider something like bm stingray tinted primer and wash on the beams. You can add glaze for more working time or put down dropcloths and use water to cut it into a wash. Test it on some other raw wood that has had tannins develop for a few years. Then put it against your white wall - your husband will get the contrast and wood grain but you'll get the quiet palette you were hoping for. They both will have architectural depth and interest.
