I agree that odd numbers work best. But you also need to consider scale. View the individual lights as one whole light fixture and match it to the space. In some spaces two will work best.

If you take your plans to Beacon, they’ll help you. Check first that they have some fittings you like. I looked at your plans in a previous post. Depending on the light chosen and how much of a feature you want it to be I’d pick a combined size of between 1/3 and 2/3 of the ceiling size, tending towards bigger.
