Composite Cladding Problem | Advice
Hi everyone,
Looking for some advice please to draw from some of your experiences.
I have an impossible gap to neatly fill (first pic where the blue line is) on my vertical cladding install. No matter how I cut the panels down it just doesn't quite fit or look right. It's 100mm from the doorframe to the corner of the brickwork. I've tried cutting the panels down to single double and triple slat but no combination will fit neatly and using a corner piece is out as the space is to tight with the doorframe. I know there will be a simple solution, it's my first time installing and was hoping to draw on some of your experiences.
Also I have two strips of exposed brickwork either side of the window. What best to fill this with? I will frame the entire window with the grey C channel (pictured) just haven't got there yet. But still leaves me with the two gaps which are 40mm wide.
Each individual slat is 30mm wide.
The whole panels themselves are 4 slats wide 200mm total width.

Comments (12)What a fantastic architecture. When you do the brick, if you stain it with masonry /concrete stain you won't have the same issues of maintenance as with paint. They will spray it evenly - through you will have to select a deeper color - either taupe (brown-gray) or a straight charcoal. Love your windows and the classic angled railing. I think a dark gray on the siding will make the orange brick jump even more. What bothers me is the white (railing, fascia, eaves) juxtaposed with the earth toned stuff. So I would recommend camel tones - for the siding - something like http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/SW6108-latte/ and the hopsack next darker tone for the garage door. Use the lighter tan for trim that is now white - http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/SW6107-nomadic-desert/ Use the darkest tone if you are painting concrete steps. If you think you will stain your brick charcoal, then the white eaves and trim are probably right, and you may not want to paint it tan now and then go back. If your brick were charcoal, then I would block out the rest in grays and blue grays - leave the white eaves, but take the railing and posts charcoal too. Comments (36)~$400 including expedited shipping. My GC just had his regular countertop guy do them, which wasn't great.... he had trouble making clean cuts. If I were going to do it again I would have pressed for someone with expertise to cut them. You can see in the image that the facing is not made of the stone peak, because too much was broken during the cutting to make the mitered edge. For your planting advice, I suggest you call Merrifield Garden Center to see if they will come out your way. They currently have wonderful garden centers in Merrifield and Fairfax (both in Fairfax County) and a new one in Gainesville, but they may come further south to wherever you reside. My wife suggested we talk to a local real estate agent, so i think that is a good idea... just that Im not sure how helpful they are likely to be if we arent selling yet :) As for saving for our dream house, I dont disagree, however if doing this up nicely over the next ~5 years or so while we live here nets us some extra in the eventual sale, then that of course will help us as well. Interesting thing happened today actually. I got a knock on the door and one of the older neighbours asked if he could take some lemons from the tree. I of course said yes. Anyway he was telling me he had lived in the street for 40 years. I asked him if the house had always looked like this, and he said no that ~30 years ago the old old owner did a massive renovation and pulled off the timber and put up the bricks and gutted the inside of the house. All beautiful ideas! Unfortunately I have an electric window blind to make things a bit more tricky! I should have mentioned this in my original post. I'm not game to remove it as, knowing me...It'll not go back up in one piece. It's all pop rivet together.

As pictured here the tracks cut right down the centre. I have cut out a piece of Jarrah for the window sill/external. Possibly best to continue the Jarrah up the sides!?

Why not stain the timber around the window black similar to the metal in photo, could give a fabulous look with the timber battens. Make a timber frame that you can fit in , in one piece.

Like this but frame it in timber and stain black .. could look very stylish using the black against the timber, a beautiful feature.
