Color Theory
3. Complementary Color Orange and blue are colors that are opposite of each other on the color wheel. Due to colors pulled from opposite ends, the opportunity for high contrast is utilized in this bathroom where a deeper blue wall makes its orange counterpart pop out more. This creates interest and leaves us with feelings of harmony, calmness, and even a bit of excitement because of the impression this color combination makes.
4. Split-Complementary Blues and purples are splitting the complement of the opposite color, yellow. By splitting the complement, more opportunity to include more hues in a space can change the dynamics of the room, and make certain hues pop out. In this room, a calming and grounded mood is working with pops of yellow which brings in just a little bit of light and energy.
5. Triadic Traidic color is the equal use of colors in a space. These spaces are said to the most color-balanced spaces. Unfortunately in this room, while primary colors are used to create a triadic-color-based room, the large prints and color combinations of the furniture pieces do not create a successful traidic space. This space may leave visitors with feelings of confusion and lack of focus.
8. Room Inspired by Print This room is obviously inspired by print and textures, but is somehow balanced with color. While there are dominant prints that ground this space, the presence of other prints and textures were welcomed and well-balanced. This quirky room leaves me with feelings of excitement and life.
9. Room Inspired by Art Clearly the art piece inspired the color palette of this sitting room firstly noticed in the selection of deep blue velvet chairs paired with gold hardware. The art piece includes a variety of colors that are seen not only in the furniture, but also in the accent pieces found in the bookshelves. A combination of colorful book covers and paperweights helps frame the art piece itself. Because the color balance was inspired and equalized throughout the room based on the painting, I am left with feelings of energy and life.
1. Monochromatic One color scheme is used in this bedroom, and although usually a safe choice when designing spaces, because there wasn't enough contrast, not only does it lack interest, but it also makes the room seem too busy and loud.
