The following is most of what anyone needs to know. The rest, involves your listening, and not talking.
"I get the 30 inches off thing, but with 8 foot ceilings and a 6 foot husband, what height to avoid a light in the eye when, say, loading dishes from the center set sink, or prep working. And with a 12 foot island, I want it to say yeah, I’m 12 feet, I wanted to be, not please excuse me for being 12 feet and see, I’m wearing 8-9 feet clothing to pretend I’m not. This IS the statement for the room, it’s where eyes will go at first, before they got to the amazing lake outside. This is the first house my husband of 33 years built himself, and I want it to be beautiful for him.,it’s sort of the culmination of what he’s ever wanted to do. Hes worn down things and a little frustrated and “let’s just get it finished” and I’m trying to pull it through at the end."
You have a budget of 200 apiece,. You can't go look, its lock down.
You want the light on the counters.
You like seeded glass. Forget seeded glass, the light will disperse to the "everywhere" . You want it forced to the counter top.
The island is 12 feet you want nothing obscuring the view of tv. nothing to bang a head on. You want it at least 36!!! INCHES, BOTTOM OF LIGHT TO COUNTER TOP, 72 from the floor. This means you need almost no chain and attachment. It mean only two LARGE lights, but not bulky. You need width, but not height to that fixture. And a solid shade to get the light......forced to the counter.
Five finishes, click please. Three will give you 180 watts of light ONTO the counter

OR.........do TWO linear fixtures. Each 30/ 36 inches wide.
left and right of sink. Min hanging height ix 22 inches. ( 96- 22= 76 inches for hubby and island height. )

Try not to disparage the knowledgeable free help. It's the internet! You won't get a better "price" anywhere. Gotta be prepared to take it or leave it.
Eight foot ceiling, and a limited budget, mean you have to do some digging. All we can do is set you on the path, to not as "overwhelmed" . : )
Good Luck.
