First LampThis Greenlake area home is the result of an extensive collaboration with the owners to recapture the architectural character of the 1920’s and 30’s era craftsman homes built in the neighborhood. Deep overhangs, notched rafter tails, and timber brackets are among the architectural elements that communicate this goal.
Given its modest 2800 sf size, the home sits comfortably on its corner lot and leaves enough room for an ample back patio and yard. An open floor plan on the main level and a centrally located stair maximize space efficiency, something that is key for a construction budget that values intimate detailing and character over size.
Landmark HomesThis 2-story home includes a 3- car garage with mudroom entry, an inviting front porch with decorative posts, and a screened-in porch. The home features an open floor plan with 10’ ceilings on the 1st floor and impressive detailing throughout. A dramatic 2-story ceiling creates a grand first impression in the foyer, where hardwood flooring extends into the adjacent formal dining room elegant coffered ceiling accented by craftsman style wainscoting and chair rail. Just beyond the Foyer, the great room with a 2-story ceiling, the kitchen, breakfast area, and hearth room share an open plan. The spacious kitchen includes that opens to the breakfast area, quartz countertops with tile backsplash, stainless steel appliances, attractive cabinetry with crown molding, and a corner pantry. Edgewater Design GroupOur clients already had a cottage on Torch Lake that they loved to visit. It was a 1960s ranch that worked just fine for their needs. However, the lower level walkout became entirely unusable due to water issues. After purchasing the lot next door, they hired us to design a new cottage. Our first task was to situate the home in the center of the two parcels to maximize the view of the lake while also accommodating a yard area. Our second task was to take particular care to divert any future water issues. We took necessary precautions with design specifications to water proof properly, establish foundation and landscape drain tiles / stones, set the proper elevation of the home per ground water height and direct the water flow around the home from natural grade / drive. Our final task was to make appealing, comfortable, living spaces with future planning at the forefront. An example of this planning is placing a master suite on both the main level and the upper level. The ultimate goal of this home is for it to one day be at least a 3/4 of the year home and designed to be a multi-generational heirloom.
