Soothing Bathroom in Horsham, West Sussex This soothing bathroom renovation is the second renovation undertaken by designer George in this Horsham property, with a fantastic light and airy kitchen the other. The brief for this bathroom was much the same, again utilising a neutral theme and ensuring spaciousness throughout the room. With building work undertaken prior to this renovation taking place, a well-placed skylight gives plenty of light to the room in addition to several vibrant additions designer George has incorporated. Bathroom Furniture To achieve the natural and neutral element of the brief a combination of woodgrain furniture has been utilised from our British bathroom furniture supplier Mereway. The fitted nature of the furniture means that several units have been combined to fit this client’s requirements, with integrated sanitaryware featuring alongside drawer and deeper cupboard storage. A durable solid-surface has been opted for on top of this fitted storage, with a sit-on sink included as well. Additional tall storage features on the opposite side of the room in the same style, which includes exposed shelving for decorative or pertinent storage. The natural woodgrain furniture here is complemented by tile choices, tying in nicely with the pattern of border wall tiles. Chrome brassware from British supplier Vado is used throughout the room in the form of a basin tap, shower valves and handset, plus the nice inclusion of wall-mounted taps and a spout over the bath. Spacious bathing and showering facilities are included for soothing and relaxing use, and upon stepping out underfloor heating and warm-to-touch Karndean Flooring will add to the experience. To brighten the space a sizeable HiB Ambient mirror features above furniture, which when illuminated is an impressive spectacle. In addition, this mirror also possesses de-misting functionality for use at all times. The unique opportunity and challenge for the Joshua Tree project was to enable the architecture to prioritize views. Set in the valley between Mummy and Camelback mountains, two iconic landforms located in Paradise Valley, Arizona, this lot “has it all” regarding views. The challenge was answered with what we refer to as the desert pavilion. This highly penetrated piece of architecture carefully maintains a one-room deep composition. This allows each space to leverage the majestic mountain views. The material palette is executed in a panelized massing composition. The home, spawned from mid-century modern DNA, opens seamlessly to exterior living spaces providing for the ultimate in indoor/outdoor living. The house, a London stock Victorian three-storey mid terrace, is located in the hip neighbourhood of Brixton and the clients brought the project to FPA with a view to enlarge the ground floor into the garden and create additional living quarters into the attic space. The organization of the ground floor extension is based on two linear volumes of differing depth, arranged side by side and clearly distinguished for the different treatment of their exterior: light painted render is juxtaposed to dark stained timber decking boards. Windows and doors are different in size to add a dynamic element to the façade and offer varying views of the mature garden. The roof extension is clad in slates to blend with the surrounding roofscape with an elongated window overlooking the garden. The introduction of folding partitions and sliding doors, which generate an array of possible spatial subdivisions, complements the former open space arrangement on the ground floor. The design intends to engage with the physical aspect of the users by puncturing the wall between house and extension with openings reduced in height that lead one to the space with the higher ceiling and vice versa. Expanses of white wall surface allow the display of the clients’ collection of tribal and contemporary art and supplement an assemblage of pieces of modernist furniture.

Mirror shutters were designed for the Project. Both bathrooms were finished in micro cement, which gave us the desired look of seamless finish. Basins, bathtub and WCs in matt Astone material were ordered directly from Italy and stainless steel sanitary ware from CEA completed the look. The main feature of the family bathroom was bespoke mirror window shutters, which were sliding side ways, allowing a user to have a mirror in front of the basin, as well as revealing hidden bathroom storage when covering the windows. photos by Richard Chivers
