Chi Renovation & Design

A new & improved bathroom, offering our client a locker room/spa feel. We wanted to maximize space, so we custom built shelves throughout the walls and designed a large but seamless shower. The shower is a Kohler DTV+ system complete with a 45-degree angle door, a steam component, therapy lighting, and speakers. Lastly, we spruced up all the tiles with a gorgeous satin finish - including the quartz curb, counter and shower seat. Designed by Chi Renovation & Design who serve Chicago and it's surrounding suburbs, with an emphasis on the North Side and North Shore. You'll find their work from the Loop through Lincoln Park, Skokie, Wilmette, and all of the way up to Lake Forest. Master bath remodel creating a steam room in an adobe style home in Alamo. The separate walk-in steam room also has a rain shower aside from a hand shower and a tug that transforms into a bench when "steaming". Custom cabinetry and oil rubbed bronze faucets and towel bars create a warm feeling in this bathroom with under tile floor heating.

The basement sauna has a bathroom that we decided to do in black to emphasize the experience of transporting yourself to an exotic place, "like when you go on vacation." The only points of color are the plants, the white of the countertops and the oak wood of the washbasin cabinets. The bathroom has a large shower with double taps.

We have a solid walnut vanity in this modern bathroom. The mirror is a LED mirror. We used 2 Modern Forms wall sconces with adjustable lighting. The hardware is all black by Belwith Keeler, from the Coventry Collection. The countertop is Quartz Pietra Danae 2cm. The floor and walls are Walker Zanger Velluto Series. This shower has this special low iron glass that it's more transparent than most shower glass. This is an open walk-in shower with no door. It has an infinity drain. All black hardware. It includes a rainfall shower. This shower also includes a shower bench and a shampoo niche big enough to hold all your body wash, scrubs, and conditioners.

This large wet room combines a steam shower and a comfortably spacious tub. MTI Baths' Adena 3 bathtub is minimalist in design but not in comfort. It sits beside a large bank of glass block which provide ample natural light. Randomly placed pin lights are installed overhead for adequate, yet unobtrusive, artificial light on darker days or nights. The shower has a handheld fixture, a fixed showerhead, and an overhead rainhead fixture to suit everyone's preference. A Steamist unit envelops the entire area in relaxing steam, perfect for soothing sore muscles and creating an overall stress-free feeling. This project combines the original bedroom, small bathroom and closets into a single, open and light-filled space. Once stripped to its exterior walls, we inserted back into the center of the space a single freestanding cabinetry piece that organizes movement around the room. This mahogany “box” creates a headboard for the bed, the vanity for the bath, and conceals a walk-in closet and powder room inside. While the detailing is not traditional, we preserved the traditional feel of the home through a warm and rich material palette and the re-conception of the space as a garden room. Firstly, consider your space. Is it rectangular or are you working with a long, narrow room? This will determine how many wet walls you can accommodate, and if a bathtub can fit. For example, in a narrow room a freestanding bathtub may not work, and a one-wall layout that lines up shower, toilet and vanity on the same wall will make sense in most cases. (It’s also the most budget-friendly option in terms of plumbing). Maybe separate rooms for toilet and shower make sense? Maybe you want to work with a window above a bathtub or in the shower. You may live in an old house where you can keep some of the original character of the home, or you may be working with a small apartment space. All these considerations are vital in deciding on which layout will work best for you. Have a look at some popular ideas to get started.

2 Consider How You Use Your Bathroom

Once you’ve gathered some inspiration, have a think about who is using the room, and how they will be using it. A single guy needs a lot less storage than a teenage girl, and a family bathroom may need to consider elderly family members. Making your bathroom wheelchair accessible could save you thousands down the line. You may also want to accommodate a washer and dryer in the bathroom, since it’s where clothes are taken off frequently. Also consider safety and cleaning. Ensure no-one will slip and hurt themselves, and consider that many little tiles will make for many little nooks for grime to accumulate, whereas big surfaces like a sink that is integrated with the vanity counter, or a big mirror will make wiping down the surface much easier than having sinks sitting on top or an intricately designed mirror.
