They came to us requesting a more spa like experience and a designer’s eye to create a more refined space. A large steam shower, bench and rain head replaced a dated corner bathtub. In addition, we added heated floors for those cool Chicago months and several storage niches and built-in cabinets to keep extra towels and toiletries out of sight. The use of circles in the tile, cabinetry and new window in the shower give this primary bath the character it was lacking, while lowering and modifying the unevenly vaulted ceiling created symmetry in the space. The end result is a large luxurious spa shower, more storage space and improvements to the overall comfort of the room. A nice upgrade from the existing builder grade space! His-and-her zones in the master bath hold separate water closets and light-stained oak vanities with louvered drawer fronts, giving a coastal nod and balancing the more formal, modern elements. In the no-threshold shower, the knee wall supports a floating bench and two toiletry niches for supplies.

Adding a bathroom and closet to create a master suite.

Smokey turquoise glass tiles cover this luxury bath with an interplay of stacked and gridded tile patterns that enhances the sophistication of the monochromatic palette. Floor to ceiling glass panes define a breathtaking steam shower. Every detail takes the homeowner’s needs into account, including an in-wall waterfall element above the shower bench. Griffin Designs measured not only the space but also the seated homeowner to ensure a soothing stream of water that cascades onto the shoulders, hits just the right places, and melts away the stresses of the day. Space conserving features such as the wall-hung toilet allowed for more flexibility in the layout. With more possibilities came more storage. Replacing the original pedestal sink, a bureau-style vanity spans four feet and offers six generously sized drawers. One drawer comes complete with outlets to discretely hide away accessories, like a hair dryer, while maximizing function. An additional recessed medicine cabinet measures almost six feet in height. The comforts of this primary bath continue with radiant floor heating, a built-in towel warmer, and thoughtfully placed niches to hold all the bits and bobs in style.

Large format stone tile backsplash and beautiful teardrop smokey glass pendants.

When a large family renovated a home nestled in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains, all bathrooms received dazzling upgrades, but none more so than this sweet and beautiful bathroom for their nine year-old daughter who is crazy for every Disney heroine or Princess. We laid down a floor of sparkly white Thassos marble edged with a mother of pearl mosaic. Every space can use something shiny and the mirrored vanity, gleaming chrome fixtures, and glittering crystal light fixtures bring a sense of glamour. And light lavender walls are a gorgeous contrast to a Thassos and mother of pearl floral mosaic in the shower. This is one lucky little Princess! Photos by: Bernardo Grijalva

We turned this attached garage into a brand new studio ADU. It has a fully functioning kitchenette and full bathroom. The kitchenette has new white shaker cabinets, blue subway tiles for a backsplash, and a quartz countertop. The bathroom has a glass shower enclosure, with flower tiled shower pan, and white subway tiles. The ADU has plenty of sq. for bedroom space, living room space, and even closet space. This ADU is perfect for renting out in Los Angeles.
