Even your side paths can look interesting. Use peaked timber posts to liven up these areas, and define a line between driveway and pathway.

A Daylilly field was planted along the roadway leading to this coastal New England beach cottage. A clipped privet hedge is planted between the summer blooming flowers and the wild plants on abutting properties.

Design and installed by Chris Kolb of Ark Gardens. This photograph was taken by Chris Kolb. This rustic coastal Chatham property has an heirloom climbing rose on a trellis system over the garage. Ark Gardens installed rot resistant red cedar shingles and spacers were used under the trellis to resist moisture and allow flow of water and air under the giant climbing rose. Hydrangeas were transplanted from elsewhere on the estate to create an allee that draws the eye to the ocean view. Shasta Daisies bloom at the foot of the rose. Chris decided to punctuate the hedge of Hydrangea with the native white blooming Hydrangea arborescens 'Annabelle' and limb up and prune the native cedars.

Sweet Smiling Landscapes
Tired of freezing bleak winters, this client decided to split her time between Michigan and Southern California. She bought this bright, airy home that epitomizes West Coast living, but the prior owner had not done anything to maintain the garden in many years. The grounds were filled with poorly placed and sickly-looking plants. The new homeowner wanted her garden to be a respite from subzero temperatures, filled year-round with flowers. Deciding what to keep, what to move and what to add, we came up with a plant pallet full of California and Mexico natives, and lots of succulents as well. We added over 1000 plants, filling this property with lush, year-round color that is undeniably Southern Californian.

After Photos: We resurfaced the driveway and added a paver entrance. The custom metal entrance gate serves two purposes: 1 for security when they are not using this home and 2 for esthetics. They didn't want to put up a fence, so we brought in plant material to create the enclosure around the gate. We also created larger planting beds and out cropping's with boulders. The result is a charming cottage on the lake!
