We designed this handless Shaker kitchen for a beautiful family home in the stunning Bedfordshire countryside. The super-sized island is perfect for storage, food prep and eating. It's topped with Bianco Eclipsia Quartzite which is a natural product unlike the usual Quartz and the cabinets are painted in Farrow & Ball's Downpipe. The sink run, wall units and large mantel have been cleverly colour matched to the Everhot Range Cooker. For a complimentary look-and-feel to the island, the worktop here is a naturally textured Steel Grey Satinato Granite. A real touch of glam has been added with the impressive mirrored splashback in Vintage Finish!

The kitchen runs from front to back of this large family house, with windows to three sides making it extremely light and bright. There is a run of units down each side of the room with a large rectangular island in the centre, emphasising the clean lines and linearity of the space. The cabinetry in a combination of grey oak veneer and cream gloss lacquer adds contrast in both colour and texture.
The cream gloss lacquer on the cupboard doors also reflects the abundant light, as does the bronze mirror above the upstands. The linearity of the room is further emphasised by the strong vertical and horizontal divisions formed by the burnished metal plinths and golas. The cooking appliances form a horizontal row to one side of the kitchen where they are housed within columns, echoing the island. The island has a stone work top in off white, and vertical stone strips that contrast with the grey oak of the cabinets. The hob and downdraft extractor are sited on the island, with a bespoke frosted glass breakfast table at one end. The difference in height of this table breaks up the angularity of the design. On the opposite wall there is another line of base and wall units and the sink. Here, the wall units are set onto wooden back boards, which again emphasise the linearity of the design. Between the wooden backboards and the 300mm stone upstands, bronze mirrors reflecting even more light.

The Floors AFTER: This incredible design remind me of Italian marbleized paper. And cork is so soft and giving when I’m standing washing dishes. Megan installed it herself and says the process is supereasy. “In addition to being both durable and beautiful, this cork flooring is easily cut with a utility knife and then glued down with contact cement,” she says. “It’s literally a cut-and-paste install!”

Westbury Garden Rooms
The desire for a bright, open-plan kitchen initially drew the owners of this attractive property to explore ideas for an orangery extension. Their house had a long narrow kitchen with a small dining table at one end and utility at the other, but they had visions of a large, classic styled kitchen and living space that offered modern functionality and comfort. They wanted to be able to prepare supper, dine together and then relax in the evenings, all in the same space. Having a central kitchen island with a breakfast bar, a butler sink, and a distressed mirrored splashback was also high on the client’s wish list.

This sleek and sophisticated dark blue kitchen island with neutral painted cabinets creates a great entertaining space. With a larder top to hide small appliances and a full length larder for food storage it ticks all the boxes. The mirrored splashback creates a sense of space.

Art of Kitchens Pty Ltd
Designing a modern kitchen that does not look like a kitchen might seem an impossible task, but Art of Kitchens took on the challenge and created a striking room in this lovely Cammeray home. The brief was simple: create a functional kitchen that doesn’t necessarily look like a kitchen that integrates well with the surrounding rooms and to accommodate the owners’ love of cooking and entertaining.
