This project was driven by a commitment to sustainability and repurposing existing materials, seamlessly blending the old with the new while minimizing waste. The goal was to transform the backyard into a lush garden oasis with a low-water and low-maintenance design. Despite challenges posed by the property's proximity to the golf course and specific guidelines, a harmonious integration of desert plant life and low-water lush plants was achieved. Reusing existing materials and replacing natural grass with synthetic turf minimized water usage, while strategic plant placement utilized run-off water for sustainable irrigation. Navigating the constraints imposed by the Country Club, the project created a cohesive outdoor space and repurposed cobblestones to bridge the gap between the golf course and the rear of the property. This project achieved a balance between ecological consciousness and aesthetic beauty, allowing the garden oasis to coexist harmoniously with the golf course backdrop, providing the clients with a serene and vibrant landscape that aligns with their vision and respects the natural resources of the community.

This front yard went from water hogging grass and old school roses, to a flourishing native garden. As an added echo perk, we repurposed broken cement to create a little retaining wall and parkway path.

The cobble puddles are on both sides of the driveway for balance in the landscape. The same planting palette is used to create an appearance of the driveway going through the landscape.

Updated landscape to address lack of curb appeal in neighborhood. This landscape creates flow and interest throughout the property. A rock garden was installed in the back yard to address erosion and drainage issues at end of the back area.

No yard is too small for a pool. This “plunge pool,” is fed by a waterfall and is perfect for lounging, staying cool, and listening to the sounds of the woods to relax.
A plunge pool is a small, shallow pool built for the purpose of lounging, wading, and cooling off instead of for swimming and exercising. Some homeowners prefer them because of their lower costs to build, smaller sizes, easier maintenance, and reduced water requirements.

Dig Your Garden Landscape Design
Napa, CA Residence. I designed a triangular-shaped pergola with decorative panels from "Parasoleil" that serves as an artful focal point while providing interesting shade patterns that cast a shadow along the fence and the built-in bench below it as the position of the sun changes throughout the day. I designed a contemporary redwood horizontal fence to also help screen the view of the hillside with arbors for vines and to break up the long narrow space. The landscape design includes angular planting beds, concrete pavers surrounded by gravel and a small lower-water lawn for the family to enjoy. Low-water plants, vines and olive trees are planted throughout the space. Drawings, Design and Photos © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design
