The planning phase of this modern retreat was an intense collaboration that took place over the course of more than two years. The main challenge on the site was elevation. The southeast corner of the lot stands 5'6" above the threshold of the rear door, while the northeast corner dropped a full 2' below the threshold. The backyard was also long and narrow, sloping side-to-side and toward the house. The key to the design concept was to deftly place the project in to the slope, utilize the elevation changes, but not allow them to dominate the yard, or overwhelm the senses.

Mike Farley Pool Designer, SWD, ASLAThe clients had just bought the home and loved the inside but not the outside. They did not want the formal setting with Greek busts. Since remodeling the old pool would have restricted the new, they had it removed so they could start from scratch. Their favorite setting was much more organic with a cabana, fireplace, and an outdoor kitchen. The house needed an addition with an entertainment media room, cigar room and pool bath. Privacy was achieved by adding a cabana on the north side with a full stone wall. The spa needed to be close to the master bedroom and have visibility of the flat screen television in the cabana. The spa is flush with the upper patio so not to block the view of the pool. A natural boulder stream connects the pool and spa. To soften the house planting is between the cabana and house. Decks and coping are Travertine. Pebblesheen color is Ocean Blue. Access to the cabana was located between the spa and the pool on the floating pad. Remote controlled fire features accent both ends of the boulders. Retaining walls were built behind the waterfall to bring the grade up so plantings looked more natural and waterfalls appeared to come out of the hillside. The cabana features were to create three zones. It does not matter the season or time of day, this space provides the family's perfect outside setting to enjoy each other. Build A PoolCustom geometric courtyard pool for clients in Hunter’s Creek Addition of Edmond, Oklahoma. The design includes an elaborate brick shade wall with cast stone tops, and a tiered water feature wall with glass mosaic sheer descent. We used “ginger” colored concrete for the deck with a dry stamped pattern to match the home’s existing patio. Pool coping is an elegant 3cm Torreon Travertine. The waterline and trim tile are beautiful 2″x2″ Origins blue glass. The pool interior finish is a traditional Caribbean Blue premium quartz plaster.
For additional water features, we incorporated some simple but soothing water bubblers on the main entry sun ledge, along with two deck jets on the “furniture” sun ledge.

Land & Water DesignWe added a beautiful naturalistic pool, landscaping, travertine paving, outdoor shower, custom porch and deck. Low maintenance landscaping, and planted bamboo in a secure 60 mil EPDM containment trench to give the clients privacy. One of our other challenges was to solve the storm water runoff, which we handled with and underground drain system.
The outdoor raised firepit is a nice addition for for sitting around those cool nights. To complete our project was the outdoor lighting design which highlights all of the awesome focal points.
