New Kitchen and Renovation of a Cottage in Mill Valley, California The owners of this house on a sprawling hillside in Mill Valley were already familiar with our work. Their house was charming in many ways but it had been remodeled too many times by too many prior owners. It lacked cohesion and was a little dilapidated. Especially vexing to the owners were the funky disjointed rooflines visible from the upper part of their property where they were hoping to locate a hot tub and terrace for entertaining. They also wanted a new chef’s kitchen and entry. By raising the ceiling of the new kitchen, we were not only able to create a bright and airy room but we were also able to clean up the roofline. The new kitchen blends farmhouse and craftsman elements with modern appliances and Caesarstone counters. At the new lean-to entry we used heavy timber elements and a rustic custom door to accentuate the country setting. Our landscape design work included all of the walkways, stairs, terraces, decks, hot tub, trellises and the fountain of colored, board-formed concrete. Photos by Mark Brand.

Our clients were looking to replace their existing dying grass with a welcoming low water design. We created a fire pit seating area under trees with string lights overhead. The fountain is featured opposite the master bedroom windows. A low water and low maintenance design.

After removing an old wooden deck and re-sealing the roof membrane, we installed a low maintenance porcelain paver floor on a pedestal system to increase drainage, air circulation and overall weight dispersion of the garden elements. We fabricated custom cedar planter boxes with a cedar and steel railing to add height for increased safety. As you enter the space, the focal point of the garden is a sleek, modern water feature with a pretty Mexican pebble and tigerwood base. The unique outdoor kitchen is comprised of Tigerwood, cedar and stainless hardware. Tigerwood cladding on the door of an existing stand alone grill, creates the illusion of a built in grill, with beautiful cedar countertops on either side. Landscape lighting and an irrigation system keep the garden stunning day and night. Jenn LassaJenn Lassa

You've probably never considered an outdoor water feature like this one- using a hidden "pond" and recycling water, this waterfall adds ambiance and interest to the landscape.

The client wanted to have separate areas for entertaining and relaxing in a small space. The space was divided to include a private nook at the end, a raised vegetable garden, and a dramatic entry into the space with large poured-in-place concrete pavers and river pebbles to accommodate outdoor seating and dining.

This corner water feature is sited to seen and enjoyed from the outside and the inside. It can be viewed easily through the windows of the home. The windows can also be opened to allow the splashing sound of the water through the open windows. The design of this water feature allows the falling water to hit rocks and water that provide for varied sound effects.
