On this large wraparound kitchen extension we extended out into the side return, utilising a dead space, and into the rear garden. The result is a multifunctional kitchen and dining space that is open and bright. The extension roof is a gable design with a pitched roof in the side return. The benefit of this design is the height that is created, which makes the space feel so much bigger. Another feature is the angles created by the roof structure, particularly in the side return where glass is angled to give better light reach into the original space underneath the first floor. A large fixed glass panel was installed above the bifold doors on the exterior rear wall to create a feature and maximise light, whilst enhancing the connection with the outside. Most other roofs would typically create a lower ceiling, so in a large open space like this it is a real opportunity to be creative and add atmosphere.

A bulthaup b3 kitchen designed and installed by hobsons|choice and featured in the September issue of KBB Magazine in the UK. The corian island worktop has a molded double sink and drainer arrangement. Full length drawer aluminium 'G2' bulthaup handles make access easy.

The kitchen is anchored by a central island and illuminated from above by rooflights, creating a calm, light-filled heart to the home within the larger open-plan arrangement.

Brief: The main concerns for our client were to create a family friendly entertaining space with plenty of storage. They had a clear idea of colour scheme but needed help to plan and select the appropriate finish and style. Collection: Urban Style with white gloss and satin black handle-less units. Silestone white quartz worktop and grey quartz breakfast bar. Solution: Space was not an issue in this comfortably sized kitchen/dining room. Our designers worked with our client to give them a multi-functional space that is perfect for the serious cook, the entertainer and the family. LED lighting under the worktops, in the channel handles and under the breakfast bar add a sophisticated touch whilst softening the effect of the large kitchen island. Having a durable Silestone quartz breakfast bar means it will last for years to come - and means that the cook is never isolated from the party. With significant internal wall remodelling, we removed an existing bedroom and utilised a lounge room to pave the way for a large open plan kitchen and dining area. We also removed an unwanted file storage room that backed onto the study and existing kitchen which allowed to the installation of a fully insulated temperature controlled cellar. A galley style kitchen was selected for the space and at the heart of the design is a large island bench that focuses on engagement and congregation and provides seating for 6. Acting as the activity hub of the kitchen, the island consists of split level benchtop which provides additional serving space for this family of avid entertainers. A standout feature is the large utility working wall that can be fully concealed when not in use and when open reveals not only a functional space but beautiful oak joinery and LED lit display shelving. The modern design of the kitchen is seen through the clean lines which are given an edge through the layering of materials resulting in a striking and rich palette. The all-black kitchen works well with the natural finishes and rawness of the timber finishes. The refined lines of the slimline Dekton benchtops complimented by the dark 2-pac and large format tiles make for a timeless scheme with an industrial edge. A fireplace was installed in the seating nook off the kitchen which was clad in rustic recycled timber, creating a textural element as well as bringing warmth and a sense of softness to the large space.
