This Pennsylvanian family had just moved into a new neighborhood and were looking to create a comfortable backyard setting with lush shade-garden planting and plenty of stone seating. The outcome was a balance of sun and shady seating areas, lawn play space, and multi-seasonal plant beds that soften and screen parts of the driveway, garage, and neighboring property.

The rich red foliage of a Japanese maple provides a striking contrast to the delicate late Spring leaves of Birch and Serviceberry trees. Rhododendron buds swell and Iris bulbs push upward in preparation to bloom.

Now the space is a well organized highly productive organic vegetable garden. The deer no longer can get in and the heavy clay soil is no longer a problem.
Russell Landscape Construction
This project began in 2015 with a major renovation of the landscape on the side and backyard of this property. First we constructed a gravel driveway with edgestones around its perimeter and a naturalized planting. The driveway led into a gravel walkway that extended around to the back of the house where it became a gravel patio. We also installed a set of natural basalt columns and carried the same naturalized planting and boulder theme around to the backyard.
This year we built upon the original project by converting the gravel patio into a paver patio and installed flagstone steppers along the gravel walkway. More recently, we just finished up adding to the planting to create a shorter privacy screening using Black Dragon Cryptomeria. Mid-Phase Firepit and seating area made from Pennsylvania bluestone and boulders. Many of the boulders were excavated from yard during construction of the house. Boulders from a nearby quarry were brought in to match the existing to blend seamlessly.

The outside of this house features a stream that winds from one side of the property to the other. There are paver stone pathways that lead from each side of the house to the main entrance plus one that leads you from the front of the house through the beautiful kitchen side vegetable garden to the back trex deck. The landscaping has a mix of mature trees, bushes, and tons of flowers including pine trees, boxwoods, roses, petunias, daisies, dahlias, bleeding hearts and more.

Natural stone walls are very common in the Hill Country. Many homeowners love to use stone for different accent features on their home. With a little creativity (plus a chipping hammer and grinder) we build these beautiful natural stone walls.
DAPPLED EARTH– designs to nurture life!
This native rock garden in Central Oregon was created to collect rain water and snow melt, and to celebrate seasonal effects. You can see that it is lower than the immediate area and has stone steps to the right climbing out of the depression. In this mid summer photograph you see fire cracker penstemon, pineneedle penstemon, rocky mountian pentemon, and yarrow blooming. The tall skinny plant is a scarlet gilia that will be covered in red trumpet bloom in August.
Iconlux - Landscape Lighting
A small thatched country cottage. The client wanted to light the area at the back where they drove in. Primarily, we lit where the gates open linking it to the electronic gates. The features of the garden were picked up with lighting and backlight the raised bed. Layers were created with lighting.
