This shady rooftop terrace was designed with a beautiful grey composite deck, wood fencing, a pergola, and an outdoor Shoji screen. Composite decking has come a long way and can have a very high-quality looking finish like this one. The benefit to using composite wood is that it is rated for fire safety. This rooftop garden is located near NYU in Manhattan. Read more about this garden on my blog, www.amberfreda.com.

We designed an expansive elevated living space using a warm Brazilian Cumaru hardwood. In order to tie in with the beautiful stone in the front of the house, we added a hand chiseled stone raised planter, complete with palm trees for an added “vacation” touch. The space was brought together with a black fine textured aluminum rail.

Sit outside and tan. Have breakfast with friends. Have a barbecue and play games late into the even while choosing and listening to your favorite music. As well, control your lights from an Apple device or remote and create the best party scene!

An intimate park-like setting with low-maintenance materials replaced an aging wooden rooftop deck at this Bucktown home. Three distinct spaces create a full outdoor experience, starting with a landscaped dining area surrounded by large trees and greenery. The illusion is that of a secret garden rather than an urban rooftop deck. A sprawling green area is the perfect spot to soak in the summer sun or play an outdoor game. In the front is the main entertainment area, fully outfitted with a louvered roof, fire table, and built-in seating. The space maintains the atmosphere of a garden with shrubbery and flowers. It’s the ideal place to host friends and family with a custom kitchen that is complete with a Big Green Egg and an outdoor television.

E perché no? Qualche pianta di pomodori, zucchine, melanzane… così da avere anche la propria coltivazione bio in balcone. Un consiglio spassionato, abolite le siepi di finta edera!

This deck creates an easy flow from the kitchen, outdoors to the deck then the patio, then the garden. Without a railing, it feels like a "raft" floating above the patio and lush greenery of this terraced yard. Made from locally sourced black locust wood and cedar, with steps of granite curb stones salvaged from a New Hampshire highway. The shelves were designed to create open screening from a neighbors yard and driveway and house a changing collection of small plants, artifacts, and stones.
