This artist's haven in Portola Valley, CA is in a woodsy, rural setting. The goal was to make this home lighter and more inviting using new lighting, new flooring, and new furniture, while maintaining the integrity of the original house design. Not quite Craftsman, not quite mid-century modern, this home built in 1955 has a rustic feel. We wanted to uplevel the sophistication, and bring in lots of color, pattern, and texture the artist client would love.

A home can be many different things for people, this eclectic artist home is full of intrigue and colour. The design is uplifting and inspires creativity in a comfortable and relaxed setting through the use of odd accessories, lounge furniture, and quirky details. You can have a coffee in the kitchen or Martini's in the living room, the home caters for both at any time. What is unique is the use of bold colours that becomes the background canvas while designer objects become the object of attention. The house lets you relax and have fun and lets your imagination go free.

In creating a colourful living room/bar area, I have infused the space with vibrancy and personality, setting the stage for lively gatherings and relaxation. The walls are painted in a palette of bold hues creating a striking backdrop that energises the room. Colourful artwork adorns the walls, adding pops of colour and visual interest throughout the space. A comfortable and inviting seating area features a mix of colourful sofas and chairs, complemented by an array of throw pillows. Overall the creation of a colourful living room/bar area is a celebration of bold design choices and a reflection of your vibrant personality and style.

In this thoughtfully designed living room, the goal was to introduce sculptural elements without overwhelming the space. The result is a serene and inviting environment achieved through the use of reflective, translucent, and light-coloured elements. This living room also showcases iconic pieces, such as the Wegner's Ox Chair and the Gubi 9602 floor lamp, adding a touch of timeless elegance to the composition. To crown this harmonious blend of form and function, the Hutchinson Chandelier by Eichholtz takes centre stage, illuminating the space and elevating its artistic appeal. It's a living room that strikes a delicate balance between aesthetics and tranquillity, inviting you to relax and appreciate the beauty of its carefully curated elements.

Every detail of this European villa-style home exudes a uniquely finished feel. Our design goals were to invoke a sense of travel while simultaneously cultivating a homely and inviting ambience. This project reflects our commitment to crafting spaces seamlessly blending luxury with functionality. The living room drew its inspiration from a collection of pillows characterized by rich velvet, plaid, and paisley patterns in shades of blue and red. This design approach conveyed a British Colonial style with a touch of Ralph Lauren's distinctive flair. A blue chenille fabric was employed to upholster a tufted sofa adorned with leather and brass bridle bit accents on the sides. At the center of the room is a striking plaid ottoman, complemented by a pair of blood-red leather chairs positioned to capture a picturesque lake view. Enhancing this view are paisley drapes, which extend from floor to pine ceiling. --- Project completed by Wendy Langston's Everything Home interior design firm, which serves Carmel, Zionsville, Fishers, Westfield, Noblesville, and Indianapolis. We started we a dated living space from the early 2000's. Our client loves color and wanted to go bold. We started removing old 12x12 ceramic tiles and replace them with hardwood flooring. We added wall paneling in the living room to give the space more architectural significance and bring the tall ceiling to human scale. Custom draperies were added for color on the walls. In the dining room we added a banana bark wallpaper on the walls and a patterned grasscloth on the ceiling.
