Classic Home ImprovementsThis Encinitas home was transformed with a smooth Santa Barbara stucco finish with black window and door trim. This mid-century modern design has these homeowners one with nature and enjoying the panoramic views on this surrounding deck!
Salt + Dirt | Outside DesignThe backyard, quite visible through every window facing north, is a steep hillside between the home and the driveway descending from the county road above, and Highway 82 not much further.
Engineered walls of concrete block ensure the hillside stays where it needs to, but the view was - meh. Too sterile.
A meritage of cultivar creeping pines and spruces, cascading vines, variegated shrubs, and a diversity of ornamental grasses and workhorse flowering perennials turned an eye sore into a multitude of beautiful vignettes. Why NOT make the wood pile beautiful?

Picture Perfect LawnThis yard was completely redone including a huge piece of synthetic lawn, 12 tons of rock, drip irrigation, drought friendly plants, and a walkway of pavers was added throughout the yard.

Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignThe "Gracie Modern Arbors" (by TerraTrellis) offer eye-catching focal points. Three installed to bring interest and needed height over a long pathway ramp with grape vines. Another frames a stairway to the hillside with a flowering Passion vine. The sloped hillsides were revamped to include low-water and low-maintenance plants that include CA natives, flowing grasses, other Mediterranean plants and several succulents.

The evergreens truly play together - outstretched limbs of spruce in ice blue, feathers juniper boughs taking flight in silver green. The panic grasses send up pink seed heads in mid summer, the leaves become burgundy, early autumn. Always change and evolving amid the seasons in a well designed border.

Designing with cultivar evergreens, we could compose these gardens with confidence in the exact size and shape of each evergreen - pines, junipers, and spruces.
To marry the evergreen privacy forest together, taller grasses and deciduous shrubs meander between them.

Dig Your Garden Landscape DesignThe front and back areas surrounding this Eichler home were updated with the mid-century modern design aesthetic in mind. The back landscape includes concrete retaining walls and pathways and the "Gracie Modern Arbors" (by TerraTrellis) provide eye-catching focal points, three installed to bring interest and needed height over a long pathway ramp with grape vines. Another frames a stairway to the hillside with a flowering Passion vine. The sloped hillsides were revamped to include low-water and low-maintenance plants that include CA natives, flowing grasses, other Mediterranean plants and several succulents. The Front landscape takes on a minimalist design with architectural Barrel Cactus, Artichoke Agaves, stately Thatching Reeds, a Blue Palm (Brahea 'Clara') a Mediterranean Fan Palm and other easy-care plants. The corten steel sculpture offers a striking focal point adjacent to the front doorway.
