Highland Builders LLCA traditional style home that sits in a prestigious West Bend subdiviison. With its many gables and arched entry it has a regal southern charm upon entering. The lower level is a mother-in-law suite with it's own entrance and a back yard pool area. It sets itself off with the contrasting James Hardie colors of Rich Espresso siding and Linen trim and Chilton Woodlake stone blend.
Proctor Watts Cole RutterWorking on a constrained site with large feature trees to be retained, we developed a design that replaced an existing garage and shed to provide our clients with a new garage and glazed link to a multipurpose study/guest bedroom. The project also included a garden room, utility, and shower room, replacing an existing inefficient conservatory.
Working with Hellis Solutions Ltd as tree consultants, we designed the structure around the trees with mini pile foundations being used to avoid damaging the roots.
High levels of insulation and efficient triple-glazed windows with a new underfloor heating system in the extension, provide a very comfortable internal environment.
Externally, the extension is clad with Larch boarding and has a part Zinc, part sedum roof with the natural materials enhancing this garden setting.

Overall, this renovated 1920’s cottage is a testament to our designers, showcasing the power of design to transform a space into a work of art.
CONTENT ArchitectureThis home for a family of four in Houston Heights nods to the neighborhood’s historic bungalows with oversized 'clapboard' siding and a gable roof form with a distinctly modern reinterpretation. Two mature live oak trees at the front of the site provide a shaded canopy upon entry. The volume of the building tapers slightly from the peak at the center of the site to the primary bedroom at the front of the home where a large window at the foot of the bed frames a view of the tree canopy.
Spaces are carved away from the overall volume in order to bring outdoor space into the interior of the home. In addition to the porches at the front and back of the house that are typical to most homes, each bedroom also opens to a generous private patio recessed within the building’s volume. An interior atrium brings vegetation and natural light into the kitchen and dining spaces while a deep canopy provides shade to a broad opening just outside the living room. At the peak of the gabled roof, a skylight brings daylight into a lofted reading space.
The family’s penchant for puzzles inspired the details within the home. Throughout the house, irregularly shaped millwork door panels overlap with adjacent cabinet boxes to create interlocking planes. Staggered gaps in cabinet doors and drawers serve as handles, creating playful patterns. In the Puzzle Room, a custom designed table allows for puzzles in progress to be stored internally until homework is completed.
Aardvark ArchitectureA large 2nd story addition gives us an opportunity to really take advantage of lush foliage surrounding a beautiful backyard pool.
Clean roof forms and the repeated use of only 4 materials make for a simple design that fits well with the other homes in the neighborhood.
Two pop outs at the back, one for the 2nd floor library's bay window, and the other at the master suite's floor-to-ceiling windows also take full advantage of the great view protected by mature trees.
Lenox House DesignThis expansive lake home sits on a beautiful lot with south western exposure. Hale Navy and White Dove are a stunning combination with all of the surrounding greenery. Marvin Windows were used throughout the home. Showstopper Red was used on the front door and sidelights. Custom shutters with Anchor cutouts bring a bit of whimsy to the front elevation.
BellwetherThis 1970s home still had its original siding! No amount of paint could improve the existing T1-11 wood composite siding. The old siding not only look bad but it would not withstand many more years of Colorado’s climate. It was time to replace all of this home’s siding!
Colorado Siding Repair installed James Hardie fiber cement lap siding and HardieShingle® siding in Boothbay Blue with Arctic White trim. Those corbels were original to the home. We removed the existing paint and stained them to match the homeowner’s brand new garage door. The transformation is utterly jaw-dropping!
