The island is stained walnut. The cabinets are glazed paint. The gray-green hutch has copper mesh over the doors and is designed to appear as a separate free standing piece. Small appliances are behind the cabinets at countertop level next to the range. The hood is copper with an aged finish. The wall of windows keeps the room light and airy, despite the dreary Pacific Northwest winters! The fireplace wall was floor to ceiling brick with a big wood stove. The new fireplace surround is honed marble. The hutch to the left is built into the wall and holds all of their electronics.

Curtain Call
My client has a large family room with a cathedral ceiling. A large palladium window and a French door and window span a width of twelve feet. We installed a traversing drapery in a large pattern in blues, green and beige on an off white background. The patterns pulls in the blues in the area rug and blues and greens in a large painting over the fireplace mantel. The draperies are installed on a wood rod that matches the trim around the windows.

Our empty nest clients desired an inviting gathering room for entertaining family and friends that hinted at their love of British life. They had spent a number of years living in Britain and wanted that feeling reinterpreted. We played with fabric scale on the cleaner lined show-wood chairs, the extra deep sofa is covered in linen velvet so it will "bruise" and show some wear eventually. This eclectic combination is both sophisticated and surprising. We feel it really has a timeless quality.

A walk-around stone double-sided fireplace between Dining and the new Family room sits at the original exterior wall. The stone accents, wood trim and wainscot, and beam details highlight the rustic charm of this home.

This is a very well detailed custom home on a smaller scale, measuring only 3,000 sf under a/c. Every element of the home was designed by some of Sarasota's top architects, landscape architects and interior designers. One of the highlighted features are the true cypress timber beams that span the great room. These are not faux box beams but true timbers. Another awesome design feature is the outdoor living room boasting 20' pitched ceilings and a 37' tall chimney made of true boulders stacked over the course of 1 month.

This project was a complete face lift of the entire first floor. Architectural moldings, strong wall color and black accents give boldness and a sense of unity to the rooms. A large scale but light feeling chandelier anchors the volume of the Family Room. The custom wall unit in that room adds a balance to the full height stone fireplace. The Living Room walls are a lively Persimmon which allows the neutral upholstery and area rug to sparkle and pop.

The former home had a porch

It was a huge decision to forgo the screened porch that held so many memories. However, the family determined that a larger room that mimicked the sun porch by recreating the bead board ceiling in the traditional robins egg blue that they had always loved. The original back glass door off the living room remained. The new large comfy couch under the 8 windows that surround the room have proven to be the place of choice to lounge. The original porch was a half the size. The family is thrilled with the ability to all hang out in the space in this sun filled room.

Custom casework is featured throughout, and we used many techniques that push the boundary of what built-ins can do. Case in point: the family room bookshelves hide a concealed door to the office. Think Scooby-doo!
Once opened, the hidden door leads to a home office featuring walls in black grasscloth.

The open concept allowed a lot of natural light to wash through the home and keep things light and airy. The hardwood floors are a rustic stained hickory completed with beautiful burled knots and character streaks through out.

This charming family room, was inspired by all things french, fun and fresh.
The goal was a happy, feel good family room, to seat several guests, and relax at the end of a difficult day.
This executive home was methodically planned and renovated. Each element inspired by all things that invoke a sense of feeling.
This project is 5+ years old. Most items shown are custom (eg. millwork, upholstered furniture, drapery). Most goods are no longer available. Benjamin Moore paint.
