Custom paint palette artwork artwork, and large scale custom design wallpaper mural that extends as clear printed vinyl over the window. A contemporary informal kitchen/dining area that allows for multiple use of the space. Focus on bright bold accent colours and sense of humour.

At 90 square feet, this tiny kitchen is smaller than most bathrooms. Add to that four doorways and a window and you have one tough little room. The key to this type of space is the selection of compact European appliances. The fridge is completely enclosed in cabinetry as is the 45cm dishwasher. Sink selection and placement allowed for a very useful corner storage cabinet. Drawers and additional storage are accommodated along the existing wall space right of the rear porch door. Note the careful planning how the casings of this door are not compromised by countertops. This tiny kitchen even features a pull-out pantry to the left of the fridge. The retro look is created by using laminate cabinets with aluminum edges; that is reiterated in the metal-edged laminate countertop. Marmoleum flooring and glass tiles complete the look.

The large central island is the main focal point in the room. Our client wanted strong lines throughout which we achieved by sandwiching two pieces of the birch ply together with a piece of American Black Walnut in the middle. The drawers have ‘tip-on’ runners which are push to open but also close with a soft close eliminating the need for handles. On the island, we made a feature of the solid oak drawers by exposing the dovetail joint on the face. The whole island is held up by a central plinth which cannot be seen from most angles of the room. An LED light strip creates the illusion that the Island is floating.

This room, formally a dining room was opened up to the great room and turned into a new kitchen. The entertainment style kitchen comes with a lot of custom detailing. The island is designed to look like a modern piece of furniture. The St. Laurent marble top is set down into a mahogany wood for a furniture-like feel. At the range, we incorporated stainless steel countertops, an induction range from Thermidor in stainless steel so the whole cooking center is really integral. The stainless steel in the material and color pallet is very seamless. Above the range, we installed steel panels with a natural waxed finish. All appliances are fully integrated to give a discrete seamless design. At one end of the kitchen, is a beverage center with refrigeration, an ice maker, and storage. The opposite end of the kitchen is repurposed with two existing hutches and added gears and new lighting beyond. Interiors: Carlton Edwards in collaboration w/ Greg Baudouin
