This project converted a builder design with entry level finishes into an elegant entertaining space that fit the needs of an active family. Off white Omega painted cabinets with a timeless recessed panel door design set the tone for a transitional setting. Lennon granite was used to partner the cabinets with the grey tones in the large format tile splash and the warmth of the oak flooring. A window was removed from the cooking wall to simplify the space and organize the work triangle in a way that guests would know where to sit and multiple cooks could operate without a congested setting. The sink was placed on the large island to allow the cook to be able to engage with the family room and whoever sits at the stools. Products include Thermador / Viking / Wolf appliances, Omega Dynasty Lorring - Magnolia Cabinets, Amerock hardware, and American Hardwood Flooring - red oak flooring.

The colors of the Best Tile Tozen Strontium glass tile (Natural Gray) backsplash, the Monte Bello granite countertop, and the Benjamin Moore Wythe walls provide a pleasing, soft contrast to the Maple Wood White Cabinets from Decora. Inside lighting in the glass panel cabinets illuminate a collection of dishes. The existing pine floors were refinished and stained to match the oak floors in the rest of the home.

This custom beverage center was designed around the clients new Sub-Zero wine cooler. The existing walls were not deep enough to accommodate the new cooler, so we centered it and added decorative angled flutes on the sides to coordinate with the rest of the kitchen. Glass shelves and beveled glass doors highlight the wine glass collection. Roll out trays in each base cabinet allow for easy access to liquor and other beverage items. This multi-functional space serves as a desk, beverage center and hutch.

Denys Builds Designs Renovations
A Modern Mission
The challenge in this Ottawa South home was to update a turn-of-the-century home’s kitchen, preserving the Arts and Craft styling while providing the modern conveniences required by today’s lifestyles. The classic lines and warm colours combine to create a functional and inviting space.
The upper cabinets do double duty, offering long-term storage space as well as providing extra lighting. A salvaged antique door with sandblasted glass replaced an inappropriate modern door. A custom cherry heat grill was crafted and stained to match for the stool side of the peninsula. With careful attention to detail, the painted and damaged mouldings in the dining & kitchen area were replaced with new ones that were finished with stain & amber shellac to help them blend seamlessly with the old ones. Mission accomplished.
