This family room provides an ample amount of seating for when there is company over and also provides a comfy sanctuary to read and relax. Being so close to horse farms and vineyards, we wanted to play off the surrounding characteristics and include some corresponding attributes in the home. Brad Knipstein was the photographer.

The mood and character of the great room in this open floor plan is beautifully and classically on display. The furniture, away from the walls, and the custom wool area rug add warmth. The soft, subtle draperies frame the windows and fill the volume of the 20' ceilings.

This stunning living room showcases large windows with a lake view, cathedral ceilings with exposed wood beams, and a gas double-sided fireplace with a custom blend of Augusta and Quincy natural ledgestone thin veneer. Quincy stones bring a variety of grays, blues, and tan tones to your stone project. The lighter colors help contrast the darker tones of this stone and create depth in any size project. The golden veins add some highlights the will brighten your project. The stones are rectangular with squared edges that are great for creating a staggered brick look. Most electronics and appliances blend well with this stone. The rustic look of antiques and various artwork are enhanced with Quincy stones in the background.

With an outstanding view of the pool and the wetlands, the great room is purposely void of a television. To the left, a stone fireplace is featured against a massive wall with display shelves and a floor-to-ceiling column of touch-latch storage. This stained wall is a wonderful exhibit of rift sawn lumber, which is milled perpendicular to the growth rings, yielding a tight, linear grain with no flecking.

All three pieces of original artwork were discovered while shopping with our client at a local auction. A small piece is layered against the large mixed media piece with a small vintage wooden stool. The walls and trim are all painted the same shade of white in different sheens to make the 8'4" ceilings appear taller. The cheerful yellow spool chairs are super comfortable, but keep the space from feeling too heavy with the open wooden frame. A chunky textured wool rug anchors the seating area. The coffee is vintage.

The centerpiece of this living room is the 2 sided fireplace, shared with the Sunroom. The coffered ceilings help define the space within the Great Room concept and the neutral furniture with pops of color help give the area texture and character. The stone on the fireplace is called Blue Mountain and was over-grouted in white. The concealed fireplace rises from inside the floor to fill in the space on the left of the fireplace while in use.

This 80's style Mediterranean Revival house was modernized to fit the needs of a bustling family. The home was updated from a choppy and enclosed layout to an open concept, creating connectivity for the whole family. A combination of modern styles and cozy elements makes the space feel open and inviting.
