Significant Homes LLCSignificant Homes LLC
Charles Hilton Architects & Renee Byers LAPC From grand estates, to exquisite country homes, to whole house renovations, the quality and attention to detail of a "Significant Homes" custom home is immediately apparent. Full time on-site supervision, a dedicated office staff and hand picked professional craftsmen are the team that take you from groundbreaking to occupancy. Every "Significant Homes" project represents 45 years of luxury homebuilding experience, and a commitment to quality widely recognized by architects, the press and, most of all....thoroughly satisfied homeowners. Our projects have been published in Architectural Digest 6 times along with many other publications and books. Though the lion share of our work has been in Fairfield and Westchester counties, we have built homes in Palm Beach, Aspen, Maine, Nantucket and Long Island.

New 'Sky Frame' sliding French doors fill the entire rear elevation of the space and open onto a new terrace and steps. The connection with the rear garden has thereby been hugely improved. A pair of antique French window shutters were adapted to form double doors to a small children's playroom. Photographer: Nick Smith

The Brooklyn StudioThe Brooklyn Studio
Photos by Hulya Kolabas & Catherine Tighe; This project entailed the complete renovation of a two-family row house in Carroll Gardens. The renovation required re-connecting the ground floor to the upper floors and developing a new landscape design for the garden in the rear. As natives of Brooklyn who loathed the darkness of traditional row houses, we were driven to infuse this space with abundant natural light and air by maintaining an open staircase. Only the front wall of the original building was retained because the existing structure would not have been able to support the additional floor that was planned. In addition to the third floor, we added 10 feet to the back of the building and renovated the garden floor to include a rental unit that would offset a costly New York mortgage. Abundant doors and windows in the rear of the structure permit light to illuminate the home and afford views into the garden, which is located on the south side of the site and benefits from copious quantities of sunlight.
